The buzz is that Mark Teixeira will decide amongst his suitors very soon. I say the O’s get him. They’ve been looking for a new face ever since the great Miguel Tejada was wrongfully left on the curb. And, Baltimore is the devil that Tex knows.
Too many variables with the Nats – the who? Oh, the Nationals. They have a team in DC? Who knew!
Out in LAA LAD Land, Arte will peel his posse off Tex and chase down Manny, and pull one over his crosstown rivals – who may challenge Moreno’s supremacy in the LA market if their aggression goes unchecked. That’s the brass tacks.
What about the Red Sox? Well, what about them; as The Nation attempts to rationalize taking a scissor to the puzzle pieces to make them fit, the Boston press vacilates betweeen spinning wildly and outright excusing the Sox from losing the bid ["well, WE think the bid was high" is CLEARLY an excuse]. Are these rumblings simply fits of mass vertigo? I can believe that.
The Yankees have launched suborbital contracts for C.C. and A.J.; the Sox haven’t responded. Ultimately, I feel that if the Sox truly wanted Tex, they’d have him by now.
Your thoughts, as always, are welcome. I just can’t sort this stuff out.

Libs I think Manny scares Artie, but your point about winning the turf war makes a lot of sense. I assume we all think the kid takes the most money. MacPhail is @ 67 million right now. Angelos has the dough and like Artie he wants to bury is rival the Nats, so Balt is a good choice. Just for the fun of it i’ll stay with the Angels, if Artie can at least match, the kid will want a shot at a title this year and next, It will take Balt. a few years to add pitching, but Markakis and Tex give them a face for sure. We have to remember that Markakis will need his money also, so arbitration has to be due for him. It’ll be good to see Balt. go for it, that’s just another team to pound on the Redsox who still would have no protection for Ortiz.
I think what holds the Sox back is that they feel Bay and Youkilis and Drew and a healthy Lowell are protection enough for Papi to be the clubber. And really, they should be protection enough. For most teams, any of those guys can be right in the heart of the order.
My feeling? Yet again the Sox underestimate Manny being Manny. Perhaps being a Yankee fan you understand the concept of shock and awe as it relates to what Manny can do in a lineup.
Libs your linked up. If Sal goes down he didn’t want to take any of his boys with him, but your on my Blogroll. Also I have comments but they don’t show up on the blog page. So I’ll have to address that also. Your right those guys should be enuff. The one thing they do have is a good team, I bust their balls, but they will be a tuff out with or without Tex. They are going to rely on Masterson in their rotation, who I don’t think is ready just yet. Bucholtz and Masterson are a risk, like Hughes and Kennedy are, I wonder if it’s to much of a risk to count on them so much? Especially if Beckett is on the down side. I can’t imagine Beckett being that banged up, he’s still a young guy. Lowell on the other hand might have finally become vulnerable.
Somewhere in the dashboard you can tweak whether or not you need to approve comments, believe it’s in the “Settings” button. I have mine set to “doesn’t need approval” for comments.
Yeah, still a tough team with or without Tex. Pitching pitching pitching pitching Masterson and Bucholtz are expendable. Beckett will be back. Agree, Lowell may be done, in which case the run after Tex makes a little bit more sense because you can move Youkilis over to third [still a stretch, I don't believe they'll move a gold glove first baseman with an attitude problem over to third, he'll never stop whining about it, the clubhouse will sour on top of the disproportionate Tex money-envy, etc]. It’s my nightmare still, that they get Tex, I just don’t see it happening.
Then again, I didn’t think they’d bite on Beckett, either, when he was available.
Thanks for the design tips Libs I’ll try them out. Uncle Sal has his links button so he’s happy regardless. M4 I think Chan is pasting the link but it’s going back to the DN. He might have to open a new page then paste the link. That happened to me at first. The news I’m reading in the weei hours of the morning is Boston is now in the lead, but that’s coming from the Globe. Balt was hoping for the hometown discount. But the O’s said don’t count them out, it was just the first offer. Boras has a real 5 ring circus going on here, Tex is gonna be a rich man. I’m gonna stick to the clubhouse getting upset theory in Boston, plus Theo wanting to be Billy Beane makes him not want to spend like the Yanks. Part of me thinks that Theo got embarrassed by the TB front office, Theo. fancies himself smarter than everybody else, and can’t stand the fact that Friedman beat him at his own game. Although Friedman in TB had those draft choices to work with. The Tex signing will upset the apple cart for the Youkilis signing, his agent already has put a hold on his new deal, and wants to see the market play out. Boston with a 200 million$ player puts a dent in their payroll structure concept. They have this view of themselves as building from within, and not wanting to hit the open market. That will go out the window with a Tex signing, and if Masterson and Bucholtz end up being Hughes and Kennedy. But the whole Nation is expecting Tex in their line up, Theo may have to get John Henry to go deep in for this guy, or you may see some mid week Boston vs Royals game tickets for sale on ebay
As I lay in bed last night, I murmured, “they won’t get tex, the WON’T get tex, they won’t get tex…” – and eventually, I fell asleep.
Agreed, the “REd Sox are ahead on Tex” was put forward by the ESPN cabal. Sporting News picked it up briefly yesterday but today, it’s nowhere to be found.
I had Baltimore coming in with $21M/7 years, the rest at $20M over 8 years. I didn’t see anywhere that Boston’s offer was higher than LA’s.
In 8 years, who knows where contracts will be. By my math, the O’s may be behind by $10M over the course of the contract, but the odds are that, if healthy and trending normally, Tex could easily get more than $10M/yr at age 36. This is why I think the O’s have it.
Apologies, $21 and change over 7 years gets them to $150M over the contract’s life, versus $160M from everyone else.

Jesus what a name, not as bad as Mike Hunt but close. I don’t know if you saw this LB. Looks like Boras wants to try and get the 10 years. 8 with an option will do also. This kid is nuts if he goes to the Nats for 9 to 10 years, Unless he gets the famous Boras opt out clause. Unless he really still hates the Sox from his signing bonus days, I’d go to Boston If I were in his shoes. I hate to keep jumping on the Metsies, sorry M4, but how does Washington a last place team get in a bidding war for Tex and is willing to spend 160 million on one player. And our boys across the street won’t even go after Perez or Lowe? Well maybe their smarter than I am. Perez is a nut case and Lowe wants to many years. M4 sit tight bro, these prices will drop, Tex is the last must have guy out there, even Manny isn’t a must have, unless he wants to come to the Bronx two years for 60. Libs how bad do we want Manny? remember take into account the present state of mind our boy Arod’s lollie pop is in these days.
Manny is the only star player good/weird enough to keep ARod in line. It would be a good thing to have Manny. He would get inside that Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory that is ARod’s head. Look what he did to Ortiz.
Having Manny means you absolutely have to trade Nady, Matsui, or Damon before the new season. I believe Nady would be the first to go.
Damon-Jeter-Cano-Manny-ARod-Matsui-Posada-Swisher-Cabrera…
That’s right, ARod bats 5th in my lineup.
