Luigie- Ludwick asked for $4.25 million, and the Cardinals offered $2.8 million. Ankiel came in at $3.3 million against the Cardinals’ $2.35 million. how is this gonna play out? And with these 2 guys and (Schumaker) in your outfield plus the two kids you have coming thru the system your sitting pretty. Was Ankiel really on the trade market? and with Schumaker you might have your very own McLouth. Fans everywhere are upset about FA signings It’s almost like collusion light out there. Your GM if that was him has a screw loose, I like that. Tremendous new gravatar by the way.
LB & Unk……Like jrz said….I do read ‘em 90% more than I post on ‘em. Props for the Henderson/Reyes piece too! (Unkel loves Jose) My precinct also put a firewall on my system so I cant post from there anymore. By the time I get home, I gotta make sure Jr 4ever hits the books. He just got elected Presidente of his Grade and I demand that he lead by example! Then, I gotta get the dinner going for Mrs. 4ever so I cant get my nuts back from her purse. I got it down to a science so she doesn’t have to nuke it when she walks in. The beans were slammin’ last night!
Whenever I feel I can contribute (you guys cover it all), I give it a crack (not that crack St. Lou). Kev is ready to go to battle with the squad we have RIGHT NOW! Some of the others and I still think the bullpen is NOT set and would LIKE another bat but the later is not as important.
My jealousy of the Bronx has now converted to down right despise. You want more posts? You’re gonna get ‘em! I’m kinda tired of the unbiased opinions going on over at the DN. The comments are getting more and more ridiculous.
……and my first pick for the HR derby would be….if he remains healthy….Carlos Quentin!
I’ll tell you what the other GM’s and many around the league are saying/thinking (right or wrong)……. WIN or else! Let’s see if these guys can handle THAT pressure.
I believe “The Hut”, in the pen, gets you ATLEAST 10 more wins. In the rotation? I dont know.
unk, I guessed Luddy and Anks settlements as what the agents offered, so I figure both players win. Yeah, Ank was shopped around, mainly because he is a FA after 2009, and his agent is Boras. I was hoping we could package him ( or Ludwick, for that matter ) to land Escobar ( I think he’s gonna be special, and he won’t be arby eligible for a couple years ), but got stuck with Greene. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an offensive upgrade over Izturis, and above average defensively, but he’s a FA after 2009, so we’ll be right back in the same board next year, and Escobar will be unavailable. Fuck !
As for Schu, I love the way he plays, but he’s 29, and can’t hit lefties to save his life. He’s no McClouth, by any stretch. There’s even talk of giving him a shot at 2B during ST, where we’re stuck with Kennedy for 1 more year.
Most of the G.M.s saw the financial writing on the wall, which is why guys like Dunn weren’t offered arby. The G.M.s were afraid they’d take it. Hell, look at the guys that turned down their arby offers, and what they are looking at now. A smart agent (?) would jump on a club offer, and wait until next year, hoping the economy would be better, and taking advantage of a weaker FA class. I’m hoping that Sheets agent decides to go 1 year with incentives, and try again next year. That’s the only shot we got to land him.
As for our G.M., I appreciate that he came out swinging against a douchebag, but am not sure that that is the way you want a member of your FO to project.
Thanks about the gravatar. One of the good things to come out of the slow economy is that I now possess the computer skills of today’s 10 year old. Look Mom, I can cut and paste !
Mets4, sup brother ! Hope your 2009 is off to a good start. Nice pick ups for your BP. Get yourself an OF, and maybe another starter, and I’d put you ahead of The Phils, and even with the Cubs. I think Ibanez would have been a good pick up for you. Perhaps Sheets, Wolfe, or Garland would help.
As for the ” crack ” reference, In my own defense, I was sucked into today’s toilet humor extravaganza by that suggestive photo. I had no such intention when I came on board this morning, but I am a trooper, and my diseased mind got the best of me.
Likewise StLou. It’s always a pleasure to read your stuff. Right now, things are looking kinda bleek on the signing of any starter worth our wild. I hope Boras changes his tune for Ollie on the 5yr deal and maybe Omar would jump at it. Don’t know much about Garland but I’ll take a look. Sgrandedog is stating that Wilpon NEVER had the opportunity to say “yes or no” to the idea of signing Manny because he said he was never approached with it. I find that difficult to believe because it has been widely rumored that Omar has been chasing this guy for years. Something doesn’t sound right.
Schumaker did very well for me on my Fantasy League team last year but I never knew about the lefty crisis. 600 AB’s should get him close to 200 hits and he carries a respectable AVG. I wish we had a problem like that. I cant imagine what Albert is going to get when his time comes. Maybe Cashman offers him a Google or two. He’s worth atleast that.
Hey 4ever, you guys just signed Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract. Good move. High risk, no guaranteed money, high upside. If he can hit the strike zone he’ll be good for a few starts, and who knows, he might just find himself again. It’s a good move.
"During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at-bats a season. That means I played 7 years without ever hitting the ball." - Mickey Mantle
We’ll pray for Troy’s shoulder. It’s not like Pujols needs protection, though.
Well, I guess this means Freese / Wallace / Craig will get looks in ST.
Wallace will be fun to see. The guy absolutely rakes everywhere he goes.

Congrats to 4EvahJr!!!
We need balance on this blog. It’s entertaining.
What the hell, Kev is invited too.
Hey Uncle Sal, do the GMs know something we don’t with all the 1-year contracts?
Should I be building the bomb shelter or what?
just gave Joey the link, no confirmation that he got it or will be by, but it is out there.
I’ll tell you what the other GM’s and many around the league are saying/thinking (right or wrong)……. WIN or else! Let’s see if these guys can handle THAT pressure.

Start stock-piling the can goods.
Anybody know where I can buy one of those WWII semiautomatic rifles?
