Batman vs. The State [update: Portrait of a Shakedown]

Randy Levine defends the private funding of the stadium, under the heat lamps of a subpeona throwdown from Dick Brodsky [aka the Riddler] and his Albany henchmen.  Uncle Sal nobly retransmits the audio here.
Be sure to catch up by reading my previous Batman installment article regarding the ins and outs of stadium funding, and why it’s a no-brainer for the good people of all Gotham.
Here is the link to the official parks dept. site that details progress, outlay, and community benefit.  Enjoy.  Go Yanks.

Update:  Stadiums are Sure Bet for Private Investors

Think the Yanks won’t go all out to sell premium seating at premium prices?  Think again.
Although some may interpret the Yanks’ tapping of a real estate brokerage to… (more…)

Lowe No Go fo’ Wilpo’ & Co

The Metsies just lost a top pitcher to a division rival.
To his credit, you can’t say that Minaya didn’t already prime the ol’ bullcrap pump
More on the People’s Republic of Flushing:  check out their new “inaugural season” patch.  Looks like they tried for “minimalist” but ended up with ”‘economy“.  Sports Hernia wryly reports the also-rans here
OK enough Met-bashing for today.
A little birdie reiterates Ollie and Pedro are comin’ home on the same bus….”Pedro will be back and so will Perez at 13 mil/yr for 4 years. Take it to the bank.”
Questions:  Does Atlanta yet threaten the NL East by capturing Lowe?  What else would they need to dominate?

Henderson Bronzed; How Does Reyes Rate?

Congrats to Rickey Henderson, former Yankee and very deserving Hall of Fame entry that merits at least a paragraph or two hereunder.
Rickey Henderson‘s career started in 1979 and spanned all the way to 2003.  Most of those years, he demonstrated textbook leadoff numbers, defining all offensive benchmarks for that role for all posterity.  From 1982 through 2000, he never K’d more than he walked, compiling an unearthly .401 career OBP to complement a .279 batting average.  He held those numbers through well over 13,000 plate appearances; only in his first and last years did his OBP dip below .350.  Not generally known for power, he nonetheless whacked a .419 slugging pct. and racked 297  homeruns , and was notorious for hitting dramatic homeruns – BR (more…)

I Got Shotgun

This is some video to match Uncle Sal’s post imagining the Theo Epstein Telethon being held as we speak.  Might look something like this.
Halfway through the song, you may feel the need to hold back from laughing hysterically at the oddly inexplicable remarks of an elderly Jerry, you might feel a twinge of sympathy for the old fella.  Don’t.  Just remember, he is always this bizarre by hour 22.
Favorite part: Jerry descends into nonsensical rambling right before the big number, and the camera flashes to a bunch of his handlers looking on in fixated confusion.  Enjoy:

Anybody notice a telethon board figure that would, incidentally, just about make the Red Sox’ payroll on par with the Yanks‘?

“I’m Batman”

In the form of a weekly update, the NY Daily News has assigned slandering the New Yankee Stadium to any one of a virtual cabal of highly-leveraged, low-talent, left-wing mainstream media hacks.
We are familiar with the musings of the flamingly *illustrious* Mike Lupica [of the Boston school of journalism], and the rampantly *impartial* Luis Gonzalez [normally a Latino interests reporter - of course, the new stadium is a far more important issue to Latinos than, say, the parallel murders of 2 Ecuadorian immigrants, the co-opting of "blighted" Latino communities by the "institution" known as Columbia University,  or perhaps the potentially revolutionary impact on the Latino community of unionizing illegals].  Most recently,  Paul Weinstein has joined the fray.  Who is he?  He happens to be a high-and-mighty Leftist(more…)

Crowded Out[field]

Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Nick Swisher, and Xavier Nady are 4 proven major league outfielders.
Damon turned 35 in November, but is it showing?  He hasn’t reached 600 ABs since 2005 and he no longer ranges the outfield with quickness.  He requires frequent spelling by reserves to save his knees.  Nevertheless, his offensive numbers have been solid.  He popped 17 homeruns among 49 extra base hits, stole 29 bases in 37 attempts [on par with career SB%], and his OPS was a solid .836.  Runs were down; the Yankees offense was anemic, so he can’t be faulted on that.  He’s a free agent after this year, and will make $13M.
Matsui, who turns 34 in June, has struggled with injury and has quite officially lost his “ironman” status. … (more…)

Happy New Year!

Sorry I haven’t posted for a little while, fellas.
Hope everyone had a festive holiday.
I spent the last week drinking wine, eating cake, and sleeping in.  Often, while lost in a state of drunken catatonia, I saw the number “27″ emerge from ethereal mists.  I wonder how that can be interpreted.
Also, I have initiated a massive DIY project on the kitchen and bathroom.  I will be posting pictures, shortly, of the northeast interior of my wood frame home and it’s bared innards, upon which I am laboring to renovate.
