Boxes 3/2/09

Yankees 5 Astros 5

Mets had off.  Bums.

Melky Cabrera came alive today with an RBI triple.  Angel Berroa also had a couple of big hits.  Jorge Posada, back in the lineup, had a hit an RBI.  Houston left 19 runners on base.  Wang put up 2 goose-eggs.  CC threw some innings on the side.

Players are packing up for the WBC, aka The World Blownout-Elbow Classic.  First stop will be a scrimmage against the Yanks.  Phil Hughes will get the start and probably face Roy Oswalt.

New York will be sending the following players to the WBC:

Madon’, we’re sending half the bullpen!!!  Let’s hope they hit the primo while they’re down in sunny DR, we need those arms recovered in full, thank you.  Hey Metsies, you’re losing half the team.  If I were a coach I’d be pissed, too.  Looks like Johan Santana is a an official scratch, in case it hasn’t been declared outright already.

QUESTION:  Will the Cubans be on steroids?  If so, my money’s on them.

  1. Excuse me- “Darryl”

  2. As I child, I was fearful of shea because of the ear-splitting howl of the jet planes flying over that made me beat my head like Rain Man by the hot water.

  3. You’re not the first to mention that he MAY have been throwing ARod a lifeline. I like that, I’ll go with it!

We went to plenty of games when I was a child. Rusty Staub new my family by name. They would yell his name constantly, “Rusteeeeeeey” and I think he got a kick out of us. He’d often come over to say hello as we were there ALOT. I was very young but I have vague memories of that.

  4. LB HATES the METS and I DON”T watch American Idol. Both facts!

  5. …and then there was the time I whined so badly that my father crashed the car on the way out of the parking lot. THAT won me points. Good times *sigh*

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 8:22 pm
  6. I REALLY wanted a pennant.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 8:25 pm
  7. Traumatic! That explains why you’re a misguided Yank fan!

  8. There are reasons for everything. You on furlough there, rainbow?

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 8:27 pm
  9. I aint watching American Idol! I’m sitting here holding my jewels, like a man.

Where the hell are my jewels?

  10. It’s OK, M. We know you crack a taser on any foo’ who steps.

  11. 50,000 volts! Christmas in february!

  12. Randy Johnson 7 K’s in 3 innings today just in case anyone missed it before.

  13. It looks like he was out there getting more than his work in against the D-Backs.

  14. Ahhhhh! The see-saw life of pitching, huh Levi? Any great GM or Coach should notice these things.

  15. I’m sure that SF hopes he and his back feel that good in August.

  16. Randy should watch out they don’t have to remove another vertabrae. This is why his listed height is goes down a half inch per year.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 8:38 pm
  17. The psycho did win 34 games in the Bronx in 2 years.

  18. Ahhh the 5.14 Sheffield years…’twas a fine era for ERA, ’twas.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 8:46 pm
  19. 3.79 era the first year there 225 ip. The Yanks would take that this year.

  20. He was good here, to be honest. He was as close to the ace as we were gonna get. He had strikeouts too, as I remember.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 9:01 pm
  21. Hey Rainbow, how goes the cha cha?

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 9:12 pm
  22. Lousy in the playoffs though and the second year even with the seventeen wins was painful to watch.

  23. It’s going good. Uhhhhh, I mean the Giants are in the 4th quarter and driving! You know, watchin football videos.

  24. We know Mets- Ax Men, Dirty Jobs, The Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers after the old frozen tundra videos.

  25. You got it Levi! That’s me!

The rough and tough type of shows!

You should be pointing fingers at the one’s who AINT here. I wonder what they’re watchin?

  26. hey guys…DN has a developing story coming – A-Rod might miss the WBC because of a hip injury…anyone heard anything?? I havent seen it anywhere else

  27. Haven’t heard Canada! Bummer!

  28. yeah they are all reporting it now – thanks Lev

  29. No WBC evidently…awesome catch, C.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 9:44 pm
  30. I hope its not not where cousin Yuri was sticking him

  31. They might find tic tacs in there.

  32. Hopefully it’s just a cyst.

  33. wouldnt that be a hoot …a puddle of HGH or boli…whats our plan B if he is not available opening day?? Cody Ransom?? Eric Duncan??

  34. Well, I’m sure a shot of primo and he’ll be loosey goosey in no time flat.

    libertyboynyc March 3, 2009 at 9:56 pm
  35. That’ll do it!…. “Paging Dr Yuri….paging Dr Yuri!”

  36. Ransom, Duncan?- Full time? ewwwwww

  37. Cousin Yuri probably discovered it ….. hit the motherlode when he was injecting the primo into him…must have blown like a huge zit…hope it didnt hit him in the eye

  38. That’s a wrap for me fellas. Sunshine just came through the door.

  39. Shoe who do you want for Melvin Mora?

  40. I have a man-crush on Melvin Mora. He’s ours.

    coltsoriolesbullet March 3, 2009 at 10:38 pm
  41. Man crush-lol

  42. Shoe, I’m looking for an excuse to believe the Orioles will finish ahead of the Red Sox (1. NY 2. Rays 3. Red Sox or Orioles?). Problem is I’m having trouble finding the makings of a rotation. I like Guthrie and Hendrickson has some possibilities. Who else is there? Any young arms that might be on the verge?

    nativenyer2009 March 3, 2009 at 11:15 pm
  43. I will be SO disappointed in Manny if he signs with the Dodgers for 2 yrs/$45M. He already had the 2 team option years at $20M per with Boston. His motivation for quitting on the Red Sox was getting 4 years at bigger bucks per, ie, 4 yrs/$100M. So at the end of the day, he made a complete spectacle of himself, and went through all that grief, and even brought his integrity into question … all for a “measly” $5M???

    nativenyer2009 March 3, 2009 at 11:20 pm
  44. That sums it up very nicely Nat. Boras will spin it of course how this is where Manny wanted to be, blah, blah, blah. Spectacle is the correct description. Great for the Yanks though because 2 more years of Manny at Fenway would have made them a much more dangerous club.

  45. Levi, you nailed it about Boston. They are not nearly as dangerous without him in their lineup. Bay is good, but he has nowhere near ther same impact as Manny.

  46. LB, I was looking at the rosters above and found something that is very interesting to me.I know its not a typo, I have been saying to look at these guys Hts. and Wgt. for years.I had a arguement with a guy one day when I told him tha A-Rod weighed 240 if he weighed an ounce and the guy said that A-Rod didnt even weigh 2 and a quarter.

Look at A-Rod then look at delgado and tell me which # is right.
