Mets lose.

Ollie Perez walked six batters on his way to giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings.  Ralph Kiner said it best, “if Ollie was pitching to make the team, he wouldn’t be making it.”  More talk of delivery changes in the booth, this time it’s Ollie changing for the Classic, can’t be a good thing.  Dan Warthen doesn’t see any arm strength.  Jerry Manuel didn’t seem to think his 27-year-old, $36M “pillar” needed “monitoring” until now.  The Mets outslugged the Tigers to the tune of 13 hits to 12 with a lineup boasting nearly every regular – David Wright did not play.  The Tigers fielded a B-squad.  Ron Villone was a rough spot in the otherwise solid bullpen effort.  Dessens, Parnell, and Stokes threw four scoreless innings.  Today it’s John Maine, “armed with a longer stride and a new slider grip”, against the Cardinals.

On the Yankee side, trade talks for Melky Cabrera are heating up (as discussed here yesterday).  At least, that’s what Brian Cashman says. Today it’s Joba Chamberlain versus the Phillies.

Please check out my Baseball Digest article on the passing of Johnny Blanchard, which features a pretty cool baseball card pic.  Here’s one I found on the web. R.I.P.:

  1. HE SHOULDA WARNED US!!!!

  2. It’s not like I called her “Tuna”, 4.

  3. Oh, dear Lib, thank you, you are such a good host to us. A kind and gentle and accommodating host, and we thank You oh sweet, sweet Lord of hosts for the smörgåsbord You have so aptly laid at our table this day, and each day, by day, day by day, by day oh dear Lord, three things we pray to love Thee more dearly, to see Thee more clearly, to follow Thee more nearly, day, by day, by day. Amen.

  4. Amen! on that note, good night.

  5. He shoulda!

  6. Night bro! Later Lev!

  7. He didn’t expect you to throw her off after she posted “Hello”.

  8. See ya

  9. Hey guys, we could all use a couple extra bucks, right ? Well, I was enjoying a blunt, and this came to me.

In the spirit of entrepeneurial enterprise, I suggest contacting the Yankees in regards to their urinals for sale.

My proposal. A lease agreement that would allow us to lease said urinals, promote them as Yankee relics, and travel to various venues, allowing the populace to interact directly with a piece of history.

The enterprise venture would be called Whata Pissa !, and the applications would be endless.

Construction of the devices would be simple. Attach a urinal above an empty beer keg. Then strap that to a hand truck. Affix a currency acceptance receptor to each unit, and away you go.

Imagine tailgating at your favorite venue, and along comes Whatta Pissa ! Insert the proper amount ( a flat rate for school events, and a volume determined price for professional activities ), and you’re off. A sensor will automatically recognize the infusion of product, at which time an audio recording will spout clever phrases such as ” is that all you got ? “, ” one at a time ! “, or ” hey, grow a pair “.

Why deal with extended lines, and interaction with unruly fans, when the Whatta Pissa will come to you.

The local dance ? No sweat. Rock concert ? Not a problem. Barmitzvah ? Piece of cake. Fantasy draft ? No brainer. With the help of a few properly trained individuals ( I’m thinking of you, shoe ), even a marathon becomes more runner friendly.

Care to make a family reunion a bit more bearable ? And for those prone to show off at the local carnival, can you think of a more perfect way to flaunt your superiority ?

Construct a small shelf, and you’ve got a spot to place your beer, or funnel cake.

A truck stop towel roller, and you’re styling. Maybe a condom machine and a rearview mirror.

    I’m tellin’ ya guys, it’s GOLD !

    So who’s wit’ me ?

  10. evening, gents. Did I accidentl log into IMDB again or this a baseball discussion?

  11. Nat- You missed a real Rays fan who some thought was an impostor getting thrown out by Lib. Turns out “Tina” was a fan Jrz knows. Check out his 8:55 post. We have been killing Lib ever since.

  12. Lou-It’s liquid gold.

  13. I’m getting here and everyone’s leaving … was it something I said?

    nativenyer2009 March 26, 2009 at 9:36 pm
  14. Lou- “Whatta Pissa” is a little too close to Boston for my tastes but clever.

  15. Tx, Levi, I’ll check it out right now. I was beginning to wonder what the hell everyone was talking about. Why did you all think she was an imposter, sorry to bother but I’m curious.

    nativenyer2009 March 26, 2009 at 9:41 pm
  16. native, long time, no type. How goes it ?

  17. It had something to do with the DN and that nonsense. There was a little give and take this afternoon between Kev and nooger and then Tina just shows up out of the blue after she only logged in once before. Too funny.

  18. It’s all good, spirit, how are you? Work keeping me super busy, I guess that’s a good thing, but it seems like I only have time to stop in here early morn when you guys are apparently still snoring, or around this time when you guys are maybe getting ready to resume said snoring.

  19. I guess I better mind my manners around lib, or I’ll end up in Purgatory for Posters, keeping Terrific company.

  20. Has anyone opined on Feinsand’s report that Joey G is considering doing a John Kerry flip-flop with Jeter and Damon? Interesting idea, I think.

  21. Yeah Nat he had Jeter, Damon 1,2 today against Philly and the word is he may stick with it for awhile. Jrz has been pushing that for awhile. I think it is the right move.

  22. Kay was hammering it on the radio today, using “Damon is going to be upset” as one of the pitfalls of the move.

  23. native, work is a good thing nowadays.

lib will be o.k., just a spell of Napoleanic. Season’s right around the corner, lot of it going around. LOL

I’ll leave you a tune tomorrow a.m. Any favorite groups ?

  24. CCR maybe. You pick it, spirit. Surprise me.

  25. I am tellin yas, Jeter 1 and Damon 2 scores 100 more runs for this team than Damon 1 and Jeter 2.
Levi, How many weeks ago did I say it?
How early was I on Posada catching CC, AJ and Pettite? Now watch that happen. You see what I have done down here just by going to 4 or 5 workouts and 7 or 8 games, just like everybody else?

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:26 pm
  26. Damon didn’t SOUND like he was upset, if Feinsand was quoting him accurately. I’m intrigued. If it works, it opens up the hole on the right side for the lefty Damon. And plenty of hit and runs. An old Billy Martin tactic. And HE probably picked it up from the Ole Perfessor himself.

  28. Listen to the radio
    Talkin bout the last show

  29. jrz, you see Jeter stealing much, if it happens? Cause I don’t. Also, will it help Damon to see more fastballs? Whether they steal or hit and run or both, there should be less off speed stuff coming when Jeter gets on, no?

  30. jrz, now THAT’S some f-ing wakin up in the morning music!

  31. I think that Jeter can steal 30 bases if thats what they tell him they need him to do.
All he has to is steal 10 in the 1st month to get Johnny a bunch of 1st pitch fastballs. We know how he can jerk them down the line at the Stadium dont we?

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:38 pm
  32. I think DJ can steal 30 if thats what you tell him to do and Damon can hit 20 out in the 2 hole.

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:40 pm
  33. Yeah J you have been talking about it since the first day I was here about a month ago. It’s the right move. Damon will see more fastballs hitting in front of Tex.
Jeter hitting in front of Gardner if he’s in the nine hole should also present fewer opportunities for Jeter to hit into dp’s. Gardner will be running when he gets on.

  34. How bout dem CATS from NOVA

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:45 pm

  36. Dukes not gonna shoot this bad all night, I still like NOVA

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:49 pm
  37. nat, here’s a taste.

    Got a great CCR story.

When I was 15, the family went out to visit my oldest sister, and their family, in S.F.

Herhusband, Ron, went to high school with John and Tom Fogerty ( and Joe Rudi ).

We got 4 tickets to see the Giants / Cubs one afternoon. We were drinking beer on the way, and they were all toking.

Once we got to the game, the beers started flowing. Kingman was on the Cubs, and he hit 3 HRs that day. We had seats right behind homeplate.

By the time the game was over, they were toasted, and I was ripped. Probably stoned by contact, although I had never smoked myself.

We get back to the house, and I pour out of the car. My sister starts screaming at those guys, and kicks the Fogerty boys out. Then she starts ripping her hubby, while my folks are watching me fall all over the house. But it wasn’t over.

I went and passed out, but evidently, on the 5 o’clock news, the game made the sports. After Kingman’s 3rd homer, the camera panned the crowd, and there were the 4 of us, with beer cups piled 3 feet high between each of us.

Ron slept on the couch that night. Ah, sweet bird of youth.

  38. I like that at least JoeG is thinking. Jrz, aAny reason for Molina to catch Wang and Joba? Or is it that Jorge should play the bigger kids?

  39. oops.

  40. spirit, that is f-ing hilarious!!!

  41. Molina catches Wang the sinkerballer to save some of Jorges knees.Molina catches Joba/ Hughes because he is the better receiver and there is a better chance of them forming better habits with him.No secret that Jorge is not a good “receiver” its the move, watch and see.

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 10:58 pm
  42. Levi, excellent take with Gardner hitting “in front of” Jeter. Never even occurred to me.

  43. jrz, makes sense, especially with Wang. I am pumped up about this rotation (bad term to use in the era of roids, right?). Today’s score and the team’s performance over the last 10-11 games.

  44. Kay was saying that Jeter is only guaranteed to lead off once a game with no one on base. He failed to carry through though. If Gardner is on base he is running. So if Jeter comes up with Gardner on, his chances of hitting into the DP are less than with Damon on. I like Jeter’s approach anyway leading off. He is more agressive. I know his numbers aren’t much different but it seems to me to be so. I guess if I got the Sabremaniacs looking into it I could find something to quantify it but I’ll stick with my gut.

  45. Its the move.

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 11:15 pm
  46. BTW, Jorge’s “skills” as a receiver are nowadays discussed even by Cashman openly and honestly. His TRUE value is STANDING the plate, not couching behind it.

  47. I really liked Coke’s approach toward Utley today. He had a 3-2 count on him and busted him in with 2 or 3 fastballs that Utley fought off. He wound up getting him with a slider that Utley just froze on. All while Girardi was doing his in game interview on Yes. I said that Coke cemented his spot with that confrontation with Utley. He is as tough a lefty as Coke is going to see. I’m convinced.

  48. j, I’m beginning to come over to your side. It does make sense. Especially with Gardner. That’s a perfect spot to get the green light, cause they won’t walk Jeter intentionally.

nat, Ron slept in his clothes that night, and when my Mom was filling me in on the details much later, she said the whole house smelled like ” an opium den “.

    Here’s to the boys.

  49. .300/.375/20-30 SBs?

Levi, if I am buggin by saying that Jeter can steal 30 if thats what they tell him they need him to do, tell me.I think he could do it.

    jrzinbatonrouge March 26, 2009 at 11:17 pm
  50. Lou- opium den-lol

I hope you are writing all of this stuff down for a book and not just on BBT.
