Yanks winMets win.

Andy Pettitte had seven strikeouts versus a Jays lineup short Vernon Wells.  Mark Teixeira walked point, driving in the first and second Yankee runs.  Marte to Veras to WarRam closed it out. Today, it’s Joba Chamberlain versus the Reds.  Look out, Jonny Gomes.

Ollie Perez got his head together for six innings-plus of one-run ball.  Dan Murphy was again a catalyst; yesterday it was with a game-tying home run in the fourth inning.  J.J. Poo and Bobby Parnell closed out an all-around excellent pitched game.  Seeing quite a few games decided this spring on errors – in the field or on solitary pitches left up in the zone. Today, it’s John Maine versus the Marlins.

This month it’s a tie between Keith and Tommy for who motivates less.  Ollie Perez’s good showing yesterday actually motivated me, so I’m holding off on him.  That leaves the two luminaries:

  1. Giese or Miranda won’t net much. But, if Pena/Berroa is added one of them gets DFA’d. My guess would be Miranda but I think Melky might be moved soon. Would love to see the Reds Frazier of Valaika in a deal. Either one would be a better backup IF option for the club right now.

  2. check out this outlook on the Yankees bullpen, it will make ya puke.

  3. Sheff got an extension right after he was traded. Leyland lobbied for it. Another reason he is on the hot seat this season in Detroit. But if Girardi spits the bit I would love to see Leyland in NY.

  4. That was a great question and way to be on point Mac.I think Sheffs deal with the Yankees was 3 years originally.Maybe 39 mil?

  5. Unmentioned in the explanation of why they cut Sheffield loose is Miguel Cabrera. Can’t question his bat, but remembering him from his days with the Marlins, I know he used to be butcher with that glove. The Marlins finally settled with him at third base as the lesser of all evils, seriously, and it was not a coincidence, IMO, that the Tigers moved him from third to first last season (damage control). I know he’s only, what, 26 or so? But he is a career DH waiting to happen. A younger version of Big Poopi, and from what I’ve heard about Miguel’s work ethic, the Big Poopi weight is soon to follow.

  6. I liked LEFTY PITCHER, and RAY 1950. I’d like to see if we can get that Angels fan on here, too.

  7. I dont know what kind of move will be made Mac.Cashman aint answering my calls and he has stocked himself w/ enough chips that he has a great bit of latitude in the deals he could make.Young OFer? Young IFer?That would make the most sense.

  8. Tambor?

    jrzinbatonrouge March 31, 2009 at 11:37 pm
  9. TAMBOR! That was his name!

  10. Good memory, jrz. Sheff signed 3 years for 38mm with the Yanks. That Tampa article is obviously from someone who wasn’t paying attention last year. The Yanks had the fewest blown saves from the pen with the highest K’s. And this year they are better with no Farnsworth, Henn, and Hawkins. You would think they would put a little effort in for their paycheck.

  11. jrz, trading the reliever or two to get what in return? Got something in mind?

  12. The Reds make the most sense as a trading partner for the Yanks. They have a bunch of young, major league ready IF players and need an OF. Hopefully the scouts and GM’s were watching the game today and can get something done.

  13. Mac, Ya know?I mean all you gotta do is go to espn.com and you can get every stat in a very user friendly format. This MF is makin 35 or 40? Maybe even more if he has been there a while.I didnt even look for a picture or know how old he is.

JOE, ya like that memory, right? How come you didnt remember Tambor?Whats a guy gotta do, throw 4+ innings on back to back days in the post season for you to remember his name?

  14. mac, I know Melky looked good in spring, but his market value based on last season is still not good, I would think. If he’s smart, he plays his ass off every chance he gets, with the idea of being a starter again, here or somewhere else.

  15. Alright jrz, native, and shoe I got a handful of e-mails to respond to before I pass out. Have a good night. I will catch up with you on the other side.

  16. Native, No.I could speculate about the usual suspects,The reds, tigers, padres and a few other teams that the Yankees seem to deal with most but I have no idea who will go and who will move in.Cashman has enough to make some noise if he wants to, but I think he will move an OFer and a few relievers between now and the break for some AAA talent on the cusp.

  20. Native, I think a straight up trade for Melky for either Frazier or Valaika from the Reds would be doable. Fills both teams needs. Have a good night. Catch up with you tomorrow.

  21. nite, fellas, I’m out too, see yas tomorrow.

  22. Melky for anyone ML ready at this point, I have a sneaking suspicion Melky is unhappy not starting. Later!

  23. Later Native.See ya tomorrow.
