Brass Boxes 4-11-09

Yanks winMets win.

CC Sabathia was lightening.  I’ll temper my enthusiasm with the fact that the Kansas City Royals don’t hit on a good day, but, you have to beat teams like that and you have to do it often.  Yanks went 6-6 versus the Royals last year.  That’s not good enough.  Nick Swisher is my idol.  Until next week.

Livan Hernandez has guts.  So does Ryan Church.  So does Jose Reyes.

Happy Easter.

  4. This guy was there on opening day in 1923,for the opening of the original Yankee Stadium. He also remembers The White Sox winning the 1917 World Series, The Red Sox winning The 1918 World Series, and the infamous 1919 World Series.

  10. Gardner leading off today, Ransom and Molina at the bottom of the lineup. Still no Teixeira. And it looks like rain, with 47 degrees. Let’s see how many runs we score today. It’s gonna be hard for anybody not to think about the trip to Tampa.

  11. OK, this is pretty cool … Gardner gets a cheapie single, broken bat just over the pitcher’s head, barely makes it through the infield. He steals second as Jeter strikes out, then moves to third on Swisher’s AB (second out), and on a curve in the dirt that couldn’t have been more than 10 feet away from the plate, but he easily beat the pitcher in the sprint to the plate, it wasn’t even close. “Going yard with your legs!”

  14. Family first, baseball later!

    Happy Easter my friends!

  15. There was no reason at all to take fuckin Marte out of that game.NO REASON, what did he want, to empty the bullpen on a day before they get on a plane to Tampa to play the AL Champs, just stooopid, no reason at all.Marte for another out and Mo for the 9th, why dont HE know that?

  16. Who the hell is this Coke guy and is he on it??

  17. Hope everyone had a good Easter Sunday. Today’s menu @ the casa di supernaut: cold antipasto, Boneless rib roast, baked potatoes, salad, cheesecake, italian coffee & dessert. The only fly in the ointment was the Yanks blowing the Easter sweep of KC in the 8th. Oh well…2 out of 3 & it’s off to Tampa. Need to get CMW on track here in his next start.

  18. Empty the bullpen is what he looked like Joey G was trying to do. And this is not second-guessing, causing I was thinking it when I saw the lineup … why give Melky daylight today? Gardner’s not hitting yet, that’s OK, maybe that’s even the reason to hit him leadoff. Ransom ain’t gonna hit, he looks overmatched, the countdown to ARod is gonna start any minute now. Molina won’t hit either, but I can see giving Jorgie a blow on a day game after a night game. Tex has the mysterious wrist ailment so he didn’t play. SO WHY PLAY MELKY TODAY??????? Just sayen.

  19. PS, note to Joey G … whenever you have a minute, send Ransom down and bring up Berroa. If Yogi can play the position, he sure ain’t gonna hit any worse than Cody “White Heat” Jarrett, er, Ransom. And Ransom is, what, 45 already? So if he hasn’t learned how to hit by now …. I know, I know, it’s only six games. But I’ve been around long enough to know when I see a guy who’s overmatched up there. So have you, I hope. So now that Cody’s had his fun, get him outta here, please. Not for nothin’.

  20. Today’s menu @ Casa di Native … this morning, a breakfast of scrambled eggs and cheese, topped by a generous spreading of Salsa and Louisiana Hot Sauce, followed by java and Marlboros. For lunch, I had reheated leftover wings from Hooters accompanied by numerous Coronas. Tonight’s scheduled dinner is Fettucine Alfredo with spicy italian sausages (affectionately referred to as “Heart Attack on a Plate), to be followed by a dessert of an Arturo Fuentes cigar with a glass (or 2 or 3) of Courvoisier.
