Yanks loseMets lose.

Joba Chamberlain gave up one earned run in six innings.  The Royals really didn’t touch him.  Shotty bullpen blew it.

Johan Santana gave up no earned runs in seven innings.  The Marlins really didn’t touch him.  Shotty defense blew it.

No Red Sox were ejected, of course, and Jason Varitek kept his mask on, of course.

Make sure you read up on Uncle Sal’s Take for more raw meat on Mets, Yanks, and Dustin Pedroia.

Comments

  1. Levi that’s right he closed his eyes & hit an opposite field salami off of Santana in Shea Stadium. Talk about a blind squirrel finding a nut…that was some nut!

  2. Mark “The Bird” Fydrich died.

  3. Swisher doin it all for the Yanks.

  4. supe–he shouldn’t—you can’t trust him defensively, besides him going 1 for the season. Johnny Damon looks so old to me. These guys banging into each other on routine fly balls is maddening.

  5. If I would have spent $300 to take the family to see this tonight I would be very mad right now.

  6. Sad news Shoe.

  7. Swisher couldn’t get into a game now he is closing them out. He has the best pitching line of the night.

  8. jrz–was thinking that before. This game is like the Gong Show. I expect Tony Pena to put on the shin guards next.

  9. Good miss J

  10. Pena would throw out more runners than Jorge.

  11. Tex=Pavano?

    only kidding

  12. Thank God Girardi was ready to get 3 guys up in damp cold weather to take care of 1 inning on get away day.Its not like he could have used a rested bullpen coming into his 1st series against an elite team.

  13. I was 10 and a half years old, when I saw Fydrich beat The Yankees 8-1 on Monday Night Baseball. Fydrich couldn’t believe it when he was told that The Tiger fans wanted him to take a bow after the game.

  14. I was reading an article recently about rotator cuff surgery. You can feel better and throw without pain, however, unlike Tommy John surgery, you never get the arm strenth back that you had before–when they do the rotator cuff.

  15. All right, that’s a wrap for me fellas. Can”t take it anymore.

  16. Not that it would have made a difference with Wang tonight but it makes me wonder about his approach with the entire staff.

    jrzinbatonrouge April 13, 2009 at 10:47 pm
  17. jrz–the real mistake was that Bruney had such an easy 7th–he should have come out for the 8th. Bruney was smokin.

  18. AJ has to stop the bleeding tomorrow…again.

  19. Oakland put a 5 spot up on Lester in the second.

  20. Good thing the Yanks have 90 guys at SWB. I don’t know what the Mets are going to do.

  21. The Mets have 3 five inning starters, maybe 4. The pen will be sucking wind by the end of June again.

  22. I wasnt as upset about Bruney not coming out for the 8th as I was about Marte coming out.

Levi, he is starting to look like the stopper.I remember Sonnanstine handcuffing the Yankees early last year in the Bronx.Lets hope AJ cant get pumped for the rays the way he used to get pumped for the Yankees.

  23. Levi–we’ll give you Kei Igawa for Razor Shines–only because that’s the best name in baseball right now.

  24. Agree with noog. Joey G ph****ed that game on the front end, with the lineup he put out there, and on the tail end with the bullpen calls. Joey’s had better days, and I think he knows it.

  25. That’s all for yours truly. Stata buon fellas. C U manana. Keep in touch w/ yourselves.

  26. He’s intense J. He knows what his role is.

  27. Levi, was I far off when I said the Yankees had 4 or 5 guys at SWB that could have made the mets bullpen?

    jrzinbatonrouge April 13, 2009 at 10:58 pm
  28. Razor Shines-lol

Only if you eat 3/4 of Igawa’s pay-haha

  29. I haven’t had an issue with the Mets pen away from Feliciano and I’ve made it known for 2 months what I think of him. They are already overworked though. They let up 1 unearned run tonight in 4 innings and Feliciano balked it in. He is a LOSER.

  30. Levi–you still wouldn’t want Igawa at 25% salary. His leap from AAA to the Majors is like someone trying to set the broad jump record after having knee replacement surgery.

  31. Away from Feliciano, the pen has let up 3 er in 19 ip. How could you not be happy with that?

  32. Should be interesting to hear Girardi’s spin tonight. He’s going to be on a short lease with many more games like this one. Espceially after messing up yesterday.

  33. What more could ya ask for? What was that guys name that they let go with about 2 weeks left in ST?

    jrzinbatonrouge April 13, 2009 at 11:04 pm
  34. Nooger- I wouldn’t want Igawa if you paid all of his salary. I was only making light of the fact that it seems every trade that gets mentioned these days has someone picking up part of some player’s salary.

  35. If you are talking about Sanchez. I think that was the day Kev and I were going at it pretty good over that. If Sanchez was lefty he would still be here. The right handed relievers have all done their job.

  36. That was him.I am out, catch yas tomorrow.

    jrzinbatonrouge April 13, 2009 at 11:08 pm
  37. Levi–How about you guys take Joe Girardi — and give us Ralph Kiner

  38. I’m not giving up Kiner’s Korner for Joe. How about Jay Horwitz?

  39. Ok—Joe Girardi’s brain and Posada’s ears for Reyes’ new skull cap and the new big apple.

  40. I’ve only seen the apple once but ….done. Not getting anything with Joe’s brain but can’t get enough of the ears, they’re mesmerizing.

  41. tough night for the New York Teams. Long way to go. Scary part is that history tends to repeat itself. Like the Rays being aggressive, stealing bases and making great defensive plays and the Yankees looking confused and searching for answers. I’m still rooting hard, though.

  42. Night Levi—keep the faith.

  43. It is scary. It’s like deja vu all over again.

  44. Be good nooger

  45. I finally found a baseball item that made me smile tonight, the AL East Standings:

    1. Toronto 6-2
    2. Baltimore 5-2
    3. Tampa 4-3
    4. NYY 3-4
    5. Boston 2-4 (and losing 6-2 in Oakland)

    G’nite all.

  46. Baseball strike cuts the season short. Baseball resumes in October, just in time for the post-season. Toronto wins The AL East with a record of 6-2, Baltimore gets the wildcard.

  47. And lest we forget, Yankees finish ahead of the hated Red Sox, who deservedly finish in last place. As a result, Theo then immediately opens off-season negotiations to bring Manny back to Fenway in 2010, offering up Julio Lugo and Tim Wakefield to the Dodgers in return. The Dodgers, by then fed up with having to secretly provide a separate locker stall for Manny’s hair stylist, accept the trade. Upon hearing the news, Scott Boras breaks down and cries once again during a press conference, later blaming his new medication prescribed for his bipolar condition.

  48. Manny, of course, holds out during spring training, demanding that same 4 year/$100 Million contract that he didn’t get for 2009.

  49. Wang needs to shape up or he’ll be serving food at the Chinese Buffet in Scranton
