Great stuff here Kudo’s M4 and LB. I put them up on Sal’s for those who peek in from that end, they’ll enjoy them. Oh Also GDY great shots bro.
Excellent photos.
Sunday morning flyby before I head to Staten Island..hope all are mentally stable after yesterdays beatdown by the tribe. Man was that a pitfiful performance.
I give Citi Field a thumbs up even though I think it needs some more Mets stuff. I didnt feel at home yet in the new digs but loved the field itself and dimensions. Looking at Mets4 pics, we may have crosssed paths a few times. Sorry I missed him and jr. Next time.
I do have a few issues with it as a whole but nothing drastic like some fans seem to have. Minor things that Im NOT surprised the Mets missed the boat on. I’ll get more into it when I have some time and you are slightly interested ( somethen tells me today is not the day)
Overall, Citi Field is a nice place. I’ll leave it at that.
I cheered for Sheffs homer and would do it again. Something about watching a milestone live I guess. That shot was a beauty to watch live. I had a great angle on it. If I can figure out how to download pics I have a nice one of sheff swinging and sheff rounding third base on #500. One of a kind pics from my seat.
Talk to you regulars during the week. Enjoy Pavano today and hope that your stinkees can mix in a win instead of embarassing themselves again.
I have a guy named Nelson on the hill today. Not exactly Johan and a sub 1 ERA. Johan can spoil a fan quick.
Is the New Yankee Stadium cursed???
LETS GO METS GO! Talk to you guys soon. Happy trails.
Castillo and Church- 2 hottest hitters on the team sitting on the bench and Sheff gets 2 starts in a row. Tatis at 2b. Bench players need their ab so hot hitters sit. Mind boggling Jerry!
i gotta say pics all around from a couple of brassy fellas. that tex pic is like something out of mantle-era photography. mets4 makes me want to hit the citi right now. ahead of the curve.
Psada’s ball was in the stands when it touched thhe fan-HR.
Replay in baseball is not a good thing whatever the outcome here.
hey guys…it was the weirdest feeling…I was out and came in and logged to MLBtv and I thought it was a replay of Damon’s imfamous play last year…took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on…agreed though it was definitely a homer…good initial call by the umps
I gather it was a good game today… the outcome was certainly good:)… amazing what good pitching brings
BRIAN BRUNEY “The Sleeper” was key to today’s game!!! I said it yesterday, and it’s true!!!
I heard you yesterday Shoe and I agree with most of your analogy except he was not the key today. The major key today was “clutch” as in hitting (Posada) and pitching (Albaladejo)
They to a winning season for The Yanks in 2009:
AJ “UNDERESTIMATED” BURNETT
BRIAN “THE SLEEPER” BRUNEY
DEREK “CLUTCH” JETER
MARIANO “PLEASE HAVE AT LEAST ONE MORE GOOD YEAR LEFT IN YOU” RIVERA
THE KEYS to a winning season for The Yanks in 2009:
AJ “UNDERESTIMATED” BURNETT
BRIAN “THE SLEEPER” BRUNEY
DEREK “CLUTCH” JETER
MARIANO “PLEASE HAVE AT LEAST ONE MORE GOOD YEAR LEFT IN YOU” RIVERA
The Yanks were down most of the game. They got three big runs to take a NARROW 4-3 lead going into the eighth innning. Who comes in and shuts the door on The Indians, keeping The Yanks’ precarious one-run lead??? BRIAN “SLEEPER” BRUNEY!
Jerry Manuel said he had his best power lineup in there today, whatever that means. Like I said before the game he sits his 2 hottest hitters Church and Castillo to get Sheff and Tatis ab’s. Tatis played second base for the first time in his ML career. The Mets left 10 on base. I love the way this guy gives games away. When they are out of the playoffs by 1 or 2 games, think about these games in April when he rested 2 regulars at a time to keep bench guys fresh.
When do you ever sit the hot guy down let alone 2? When?
Never is the answer. When have you ever heard a manager say “He is hitting the sh*t out of the ball so I’m going to get so and so some ab’s”? Never!
Now you know why Jerry got run out of Chicago.
Levi…I seem to recall a couple of similar bonehead managing moves by Joey G. last year… must be something in the New York air that the managers are breathing
Ok is it me or is the advertising on the outside of Citi Field (ie discount furniture and nut bars etc) a little gaudy….I like the time stamped Pepsi Cola sign on the inside though
Let me tell CDN, I watched both games today and I was bored out of my mind by both teams. Delgado has been hot and if he doesn’t hit into the 1-2-3 dp late in the game Jerry might have gotten away with his incompetence.
As far as the Yanks go, 7 bb out of Burnett was disgusting. He only let up 3 hits and if Albaladejo doesn’t come in and keep them in the game he’s probably a loser . A pop-up homer from Jorge and Ransom’s misplayed 2b were the difference and a win is a win but I don’t feel good about them either. Tread water until Al returns.
Yeah I know Levi but this is April and things like this are expected…however it is frustrating when at the end you lose out on the playoffs by a game or two and you remember all the bonehead moves in April….They all do it expect for the 2008 Tampa Bay club who came out in spring training and made a statement and kept going.
To be honest I didnt watch the Yankee game until the last two innings …I still have a bad taste in my mouth from yesterday….just have to keep saying it’s April:)
nice photos from GDY & M4E…both teams 6-6. Blue Jays the early pacesetter w/ the chalk getting out of the gate a bit slow. So the big question is will the Yanks attempt to send CMW to SWB, on double secret probation w/ his consent, or will they skip his turn in the rotation & wheel him for say 04/28 in Detroit? I’d bet on the latter. 1st softball game of the season…we lost a tight one 7-6. Yours truly came up w/ the bases jacked, top 7, 1 out down, & I bang a sharp grounder to the SS who gets the force @ home…next batter hits a grounder to 3rd to end the game. Went 0-2 w/ 2 FCs & a sac fly, RBI. Oh well.
Supe- Tatis is in for you next week.
Yankees are 7-6 Supe if that makes you feel any better.
You’re right Levi they are 7-6. I’m a slow today. Forgot my ritalin this morning. Yanks are 7-6 & the Yankee pitching has given up more runs than Mexico’s water system. Could be worse.
More runs-lol
CMW has to pass thru waivers to be sent down (I think). However, bases jacked with less than 2 outs in a softball game, if you don’t get at least one run home, you get beers for everyone.
BTW, just being able to go by what I see on the tube, since I’m 1300 mi. due south, Citi Field looks pretty cool, ESPECIALLY compared to Shea.
If I were CMW, I would welcome a stint in SWB. And, puh-leeeeze, Joey G., whatever other bright ideas you get (like batting Damon 3rd and Brett leadoff), DO NOT start Wang in the Boston series. Please take note that the boys are 7-3 in the games he has not started.
Yes they are Nat but CC has been uneven as has Joba and AJ had 7 bb today.
Rivera, Bruney and Pettitte have been their best pitchers through 13 games. Mo hasn’t looked like Mo but he has more than gotten the job done.
Lev, Mo hasn’t looked like Mo? Huh??? As for AJ’s start today, the 7 BB’s and yet surrendering only the 3 hits is the sign of a guy who knows how to pitch, more than surviving even when he is off. The first HR hit off AJ was on a good pitch, credit goes to the hitter. Bottom line, AJ did his job today and helped the Yankees win with a quality start.
Do you think Mo’s velocity has been there?Mo has converted all his chances but he isn’t throwing like we have seen him throw. AJ let up 3 hits and very nearly lost the game because he didn’t throw stikes. CC has as many bb as k. Joba couldn’t get out of the fifth inning because he couldn’t throw strikes. Aside from Bruney and Rivera the rest of the bullpen has been mediocre at best.
The quality start is an agent invention to get their clients more money. A 4.50 ERA does not scream “Quality” to me.
Mo hasn’t been the pitcher he’s been all these years by being able to throw it by everyone. His success has been with the movement on his cutter, with batters often KNOWING he’s gonna throw it and they still can’t hit it. As for what constitutes a quality start or not, I don’t look at it in the statistical sense, ie 6 IP with 3 ER’s or less. I’ve seen guys give up 7-8 runs and get credit for a Q.S., which is meaningless. To me, if a started takes it into at least the seventh inning and keeps his team in the lead or at least in the game, I call that a quality start.
P.S., for the record, CC’s last start was NOT a quality start. I don’t care if you shut out the other team. If you get pulled after 5 because you’ve thrown 122 pitches, you didn’t do your job, and you have to rely on the pen to pick you up.
A “quality start” is 3 runs 6ip. That’s a 4.50 era.
Mo’s cutter is dependent on his velocity and pinpoint control. He’s had the control, where’s the velocity? It’s April and he’s gotten the job done but if he doesn’t start showing velocity as the weather warms it will be something to watch.
Burnett did not pitch well today. He threw almost as many balls as strikes. He walked the bases loaded and had to be bailed out by Albaladejo. He left losing 3-1. Seven walks is not a good outing.
I don’t think AJ would consider his outing today quality. Yeah he battled when he didn’t have command but he left 3 guys on that got free passes in the seventh and someone else had to get out of it.
I’m anxious to see where Gardner will be in another month. My guess–a .225 batting average, neat the team lead in strikeouts, and a marginal centerfielder with a poor arm. He basically sucks.
I wasn’t high on Gardner but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. He should be doing more of what he did on the hit through the left side today and he should be bunting once a game. How many fly ball outs to left has he hit so far? If the Rays hadn’t been treating him like it was his first game on a big field, he would have had 2 more.
Lead off today? Come on.
Levi–he is a one tool guy–runs. Period. He is not even an adequate outfielder. His swing is horrible and he strikes out way too much. Like he did last year. Melky has more homers already than gardner will have all year. Melky is much better
Teams will bust Gardner inside and give him breaking balls low and in. His bat is not quick enough to compensate. The only thing he does is slap a pitch away to the left side. Teams play him like they would in a softball game. He will never be able to take advantage of the short porch in right
You look at it as “had to be bailed out by Abaladejo.” That’s OK. Me? I look at it as the bullpen did its job, and it also counts for a LOT when the starter takes the game into the 7th, ESPECIALLY after the Wang debacle which followed CC’s abbreviated start. Going that long ALLOWS the pen to be in a position to succeed. Great pitchers like Seaver and Maddux learned how to adjust on the fly, when they didn’t have their best stuff. BTW, are you aware AJ was pitching with a finger blister issue, which kept him from being able to use his curve effectively?
Nooger- You are preaching to the choir. I’ve been asking all along why the real outfield competition was in right field. I said I thought Swisher should see some time in center to get his bat in the lineup. He can play just as poorly in center as he does in right and Nady’s bat stays in the lineup. That argument is moot now that Nady’s hurt. I couldn’t understand why a guy who hadn’t proven anything was being handed CF.
Is it me, or are a bunch of the position players looking very one dimensional, whatever that dimension may be?
The team should immediately retool itself to take advantage of the homer capability at home. Additionally, the current three outfield starters may be the combined worse in baseball.
I also looked at Garnder’s total piece of work in his minor league career. Overall, there is nothing exceptional and, other than his speed, he was an average to below average minor leaguer.
Nat- AJ gutted it out today in a game that he didn’t have his stuff. Yes, the good pitchers do that and I am a big fan of AJ. He saved the bullpen today, again. He’s already stopped 2 2-game losing streaks. As a unit, the Yankee staff has not done the job through 13 games.
Nooger- At the start of ST I asked what Gardner (and Murphy for that matter) had done, what he had proven to be awarded the job. He showed last year that he was fast. He was fast but didn’t walk and didn’t hit. And he is older than Melky who has ML experience. If this guy doesn’t start getting on base all the speed in the world is useless.
Melky had the job for 3 FULL YEARS, and not only did he regress, but he was part of a problem last season with complacency and accepting defeats a little too easily. He had a good spring, just like Gardner. Brett deserves more than 13 games before drawing conclusions. HE’S A ROOKIE!!! He’s not supposed to look like he’s a 10 year vet – that how you develop players, giving them a chance (like Melky had, before he LOST the job).
As a unit, the pitching includes Wang, who has been an unmitigated disaster in his 3 starts. But again … if you take look at the pitching as a whole WITHOUT Wang, they are 7-3 and have outscored their opponents 56 to 43, even including the Stadium opener, when the pen imploded in a 10-2 loss.
Melky hit .280,.273 and .249 last year. He had a tough year last year. Is he probably nothing more than a .270 hitter? probably. But his .249 last year might still be better than Gardner’s BA this year.
The Yankees don’t really have the chance to develop rookies when they have a left fielder who covers no ground and who might be better off wearing the glove on the other hand, and a right fielder who has a good time but doesn’t catch much. They have a third baseman who plays like he won the contest, “Major Leaguer for a Month” and one catcher who doesn’t catch and another who doesn’t hit.
Melky had two years which were more than decent. Years that Gardner, who sucks, will never attain. Spring training numbers against pitchers who are not even close to caring about results are meaningless. The chance of Gardner developing into even a competent and productive major leaguer are virtually nil. He has no tools and I don’t have to capatalize it to make it so.
The bullpen has given up 35 runs in 43 innings. Take away Claggett and it is 27 runs in 41.2 Bruney and Mo have done their jobs, everyone else has not.
My point with the staff is that Wang’s huge problems, IMO, are making things look worse than they really are. Having said that, if Joey G sends Want out to start the Boston series … I will definitely go off the deep end.
Last year Gardner played in 42 Games for the Yankees. He hit.228 in 127 at bats, struck out 30 times and had an on base percentage of .283. Even though he’s classified as a rookie this year, I’m going to take the liberty of including these pathetic statistics into the equation and just not merely focus on 13 games this year.
