Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera have a classic evening for the 57th time. Brett Gardner is getting used to the warning track, just in time. It all came together last night, but let’s hope the Yanks save something for the big Sox series coming up.
Carlos Beltran is fast but he needs to get ‘em dirty right there. Dan Murphy’s physical comedy is par excellence, but it’s getting old fast. He needs to work on a “catch the ball” routine.
Check out my BDD Yankee game summary. Make sure you hit Uncle Sal’s for the Adventures of Dallas Bomber in New York City, a fun read and a sharp double from DB7.

DING DONG. Hi, I’m Ryan I brought these flowers. The smell really good PHTFFFTOPHHHHOOBBBRRR
The tie game is the girl you still have a chance with. Don’t be ridiculous.
Ron Guidry pinch-ran in a 14-2 win over The Orioles on July 28th, 1977. I was there with my two brothers, in the field level in the infield, on the first-base side.
Robinson Cano–either a double up the gap or a dinger??
“Hi, I’m Ryan and I used Gardner too early so I’m not going to bring in Mo in the ninth.” WTF?
BTW- I would go out to the umpires here and screw around with Outman’s head and make him take off the yellow socks and stirrups that no one else is wearing. There is a definition of uniform and he isn’t following it.

Yaeh shoe, bring in Wang to pinch run.
Ron Guidry was 5’11″, 155 pounds, and athletic enough to have been a sub 2:30 marathoner if he wanted to. Wang: no.
Shoe- Hasn’t that game been on “Yankee Classics” at least 15 times? Isn’t it the “Ron Guidry pinch runs in a 14-2 game 1977″?
Let’s use up the whole team and go 12 innings versus the A’s, because we want a grand slam from Brett Gardner to lift our spirits. Meanwhile, Boston made short work of Minnyhaha. You farted the porch, while your rival just made inroads with the mom. Go home and think about yourself and what you’re doing. She’s just humoring you.
Now bring in Brian Bruney, because he didn’t look a little off last night. Or put Veras in right and bring Swisher in. Better yet, throw A.J. out there.
LEVI: It’s been on Yankee Classics only in my mind. Fuck YES. I have my own version of Yankee Classics. that 14-2 game is right up there with Sparky Lyle’s SIX shutout innings out of the bullpen ON NO REST in Game Four of The 1977 ALCS against the Royals.
Lib- You are dead wrong. You don’t give away a game to the A’s because you are playing Boston Friday. Win the game you play today.
Pouring in Jersey again. Rain on its way to the Bronx.
I don’t care, Girardi sucks.
yabba dabba
I just voted MATT WIETERS for catcher and HORACE CLARKE for second base as write in votes for The American League All-Star team.
I see the logic Lev, you make perfect sense and I would agree with you 99% of the time. I just don’t see it coming together in this game and that’s what I felt in the seventh. I hope they prove me wrong.
MILLER HUGGINS
CASEY STENGEL
JOE GIRARDI
It probably doesn’t come together after they “farted on the porch” in the seventh but you still play the ninth.
What’s the matter with Flintstone? He’s alright!
The place looks real empty.
40 pitches is a bit much for Veras. Joe is pushing it right now.
Whoa! Girardi really engineered this win! What a manager! How did he do it?
He read the Fine Print!
Congrats. What a powerhouse!
MELKY
Melky Shmelky!
Big game for Veras and the rest of the pen.Seven and a third no runs.
Big game for Melky. Making it tough to sit him down.
Not so good for Charleston Chew.
It’s not a concern, haven’t you heard?
…”He’s a managerial wizard, there has to be a twist. he’s a managerial wizard, got such a supple wrist.”
… “How do think he does it? I don’t know. What makes him so good?” …
Joe did push it Mac. You won’t see Veras Friday (46 pitches).
My question is this: If you are afraid to go to Steven Jackson why is he out there?
The Pirates swept the Marlins today and had 10,000 people there to see it.
Melky has 4 homers and 7 rbi’s in 23 at bats. He is the only outfielder who can throw. Sit him? Only if you’re crazy.
CC shut down Cleveland AND KC! Tell me he isn’t worth the money? I dare ya!
Yeah, Jackson is one of those guys on the SWB shuttle as they rotate guys. He is really a long man and Joe probably was a bit tentative making his MLB debut in extra innings. Especially when Vera was throwing bullets.
If Melky doesn’t hit the HR Jackson has to be in the next inning. Is he only there to make his big league debut in a blowout? If that’s the case he shouldn’t be taking up a roster spot. Girardi had no problem letting Claggett get his cruller knocked in Saturday in his debut now he is worried about Jackson?
I don’t think he was worried about Jackson. I just think while Veras was going strong he let him go as opposed to bringing in the 8th man in the bullpen who was going to be the last pitcher they used today. He was only here because Claggett was sent back down, Robertson pitched last night. So he was the option.
What is hardly ever mentioned is that Melky is a full year younger than Gardner. Gardner is “excused” as a rookie who will get better with more experience. Just perhaps Melky was rushed along and is now ready at age 24 to be a much better ballplayer than Gardner, who has one tool.
He was the option to do what, sit out in the pen?
He is the seventh guy out there if they weren’t going to use Bruney. So Veras goes another inning if it goes to fifteen in effect becoming your long man for the game?
If Torre had done it they would have said he’s burning his pen in April.
I don’t think Veras was coming back for another inning. Jackson was warmed up. He was going to be the guy for the duration if it went longer. Veras was out there too long, but only by about 6 pitches.
Sorry for the hit and run before, just finished a round of golf in enough time to catch the last inning of the game and say “MELKY” before I went to have some dinner….murphy smurphy
Don’t let it happen again! – Atleast you got to see Candy Corn doin’ what he doo’s.
Congrats on the win! The pen finally held up.
“And the HITS jst keep on comin’”
Thought Maine would set us right….I’ve been wrong before!
Heeeyyyyy! Murph caught one!
Just watched some nobody go deep for boston, goin to the mets game now and hoping for something to cheer for.
Don’t look now but Lowell, Pedroia and Ellsbury are starting to hit.
I can see gaedroia sustaining but not the other 2.Neither one of them hits over .275 this year.
