CC Sabathia turned in a strong outing but the Yanks stranded 20. Verlander was aces, or, the Yankees are just too pooped to pop.
Alex Rodriguez is on the mend.
John Maine did the little things, like pitching in to Hanley Ramirez (maybe a little too far in), Mets win on seven runs of support. Carlos Delgado hurt his hip playing baseball.
Joel Pineiro won again for the Cards. Cliff Lee went eight innings for no runs, but the Sox won anyway for their eleventh in a row. Matt Albers fumbled a one-run lead in the sixth for Baltimore, who dropped another to Texas.
Rangers go tonight…

NOOGER is leaving The NY Daily News. He may be spending more time here. It’s getting t be a pattern.
quite an interesting read on TDN today.
anybody out there?
How was your game today J?
Hey guys, working like a mad dog out here. Pissed I can’t watch this game. How is Hughes looking?
92, if i can do away with the couple of 7′s I am in the 80′s cosistantly.Been pretty consistant off the tee, more so than I used to be.I think my biggest problem now is the mid irons and not taking my time.Gettin better and I think breaking 80 aint that far off.
Hughes has looked good so far.Sorry for having to ask, and I think you are in the BP camp, but whats your view on Joba?
hey Mac….Hughes looks outstanding…but the offense is making Jackson look like Cy …frustrating to watch if it wasnt for Hughes
Very good Mac, I think VERY good. Not nibbling like last year.Trusting his stuff and challenging hitters.Seen him up at 94 MPH a few times as well.
JRZ…golf?? that means the leg is doing ok then:)…great to hear
Cutter?
Yep, the leg feels pretty good.I have the kid scanning an X-Ray of the fixed product onto the computer down at my house, I am at the old mans, and I am hoping to shoot it to LB so you guys can see the hardware in it.7 screws, 5-1″ and 2-2 1/2″ and a plate. But so far so good.To be honest, I am a little nervous about going back to climbing so I have reservations in the Keys at the end of May to drink and play golf with some of the boys from NJ to really give it a test befor I go back to Louisiana.
havent heard cutter but certainly fastballs, curve and knuckle curve…fastball looks like it has movement on it but I cant be certain cause I am watching it on MLBtv on a not so fast computer
Seen a few cutters but the fastball has been live and the hook has buckled a knee or two.
hey man you have to be certain about your health before you start doing your job….you cant risk further injury or a life
Canada, that last post I was being a little funny but to be honest I am a bit nervous about getting up 200′ and standing on a 2″ pipe with my 215 lbs on the repaired ankle while grabbing a 10′ leg and stabbing it with 20 men underneath me.Like you said, I dont want to hurt nobody and I wont go up again til I feel comfortable.
Jrz I didnt think you were being funny..I know what you do and I know I couldnt do it healthy
Not cant, WONT, and only because you have more sense than me.
ok this kid deserves RUN SUPPORT!!!
fuckin A….now give em some
*lol* that and I am scared of heights..I knew that at an early age..I used to work for my uncle who owns a construction company and he frames homes…I froze more times than I want to remember nailing down roofs
J- I’m in the Joba=Starter camp. There is no reason Joba can’t be a lights out starter. It is a matter of throwing strikes. He learn how to economize his pitches, who to go after without wasting time and who to play with. The only one slowing him down is Joba.
I started off framing in between my junior and senior years in high school and only kept getting higher in a couple of different ways….and here I am.
Levi, I am in the starter camp also. The reason I asked is if Hughes impresses and Wang gets his shit together, do you stunt Jobas growth as a starter again and put him in the pen again for the rest of this year?
I’m gonna chime in here. I thought Joba was the heir apparent to Mo, but now you have him primed and prepped to start. Can’t put his development on a yo-yo. So you have to keep him starting.
Cabrera really “surrounded that pop-up.
Reyes just bunted the ball right to a charging 3B bunting for a hit. No brains.
J- No. The only reason I said him in the pen was because of the counts he is on. He will be a great starter. No way they send him to the pen if they do what’s right for him and the team.
Lib- Snake in the grass- new nickname
Gonna be interesting to see how the Wang situation plays out.
snake in the grass…..Laughing my fuckin balls off….I woulda used the acronym but it just didnt do it justice!
Is acronym the right word?Rmemeber, I am an Ironworker.
LB, I hope you realize that I dont think you are a snake.
shhh I’m watching the Cano AB. Matsui on third.
dont shhh me
WTF was that
Girardi…ALL OVER IT.
Do you bring him out for the seventh? 99 pitches.
need to know his counts for his starts at SWB, but just on instinct I bring him back out.
I dont want to get too excited but Hughes is throwing a gem and if these stiffs dont get him a couple of runs so he can win this game its going to be a sin…..if this kid continues to do this it will be interesting when Wang is deemed ready…mind you they wont let Joba go more than 150 innings this year so Hughes will get to pitch…looks like he has developed movement in his fastball
agreed, A SIN
now I dont think they bring him back out to keep him in line for the win, but still think they should.
YEAH man we have some runs…you thing Girardi will let the kid pitch the 7th??
No, he won’t, you’re right!
I’m out gents, enjoy.
alright brother, be good
I think this is good run support for the kid WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO finally the kid gets a break…now get it over with and save some for the other kid tomorrow night
wow a 10 run inning well hopefully the worm has now turned for both the starting pitching AND the hitting…although Tex continues to struggle. I’ve been on the Ranger/Cap game most of the night & have only popped in sporadically on the Yankee game but clearly Hughes has had a solid 2009 debut.
Supe, Hughes was VERY impressive.
I like that Melancon pitches out of the windup w/ no one on base.
jrz that’s big shot in the arm for this team. Now Joba’s gotta come tomorrow & do the same.
fuckin A
If they couldn’t see that this kid belonged on the big club, there is something wrong with the guys doing the evaluating. Melancon dominated from the get go in AAA and while their bullpen has been sucking wind he has been pitching down there. This kid needs to become a part of the equation.
