Yanks win. Mets win.
Big win for the Yanks, Andy Pettitte went deep and only Brian Bruney (used twice) and Mariano Rivera (used once) have made appearances since Tuesday – so the pen is rested coming home to the Bronx.
Mets hammered down the Padres, with a little help from the Padres themselves. First win ever in the new digs.
Getting my camera charged up for a jaunt to the New Stadium. Any requests?

Yanks win.
The following is brought to you by Nick Swisher Blogs Inc, a subsidiary of Nick Swisher Baseball Media:
A.J. Burnett is the man. Yanks at .500 going into the rubber match, then will go north to open up the New Stadium.
Xavier Nady had pain last night throwing in from right.
Make sure you catch Jason Giambi using the fourth oldest trick in the book out in Oakland, tripping a hapless Kevin Youkilis over the first base bag and tagging him out. For extra red meat, watch the *priceless* looks on both the umpire’s and firstbase coach’s faces when K-Y whines a protest. Perfectly legal, K-Y. Next time, don’t trip.
Big Kev was at the Masters. Manners, Kev, manners.
Box Scores 4/13/09: Yanks Again Frustrated by Tired, Floppy Wang
Yanks lose. Mets lose.
The Tampa Bay Rays delivered a spanking to the New York Yankees in Tampa’s home opener at the Tropicana. The Yanks slip to 3-4.
Chien-Ming Wang continues to frustrate, having an “excellent bullpen session” yet getting only three outs in the game while charged with eight earned runs. Three of those runs came when he left the bases loaded in the second inning and reliever Jonathan Albaladejo served up, as if on cue, a grand slam on his first pitch to Carlos Pena. It is clear that Wang is throwing “all arm” and his body appears to not be catching up. It has been this way since Spring Training and the coaching staff has not yet corrected it.
The Rays beat the… (more…)

Yanks lose. Mets lose.
Joba Chamberlain gave up one earned run in six innings. The Royals really didn’t touch him. Shotty bullpen blew it.
Johan Santana gave up no earned runs in seven innings. The Marlins really didn’t touch him. Shotty defense blew it.
No Red Sox were ejected, of course, and Jason Varitek kept his mask on, of course.
Make sure you read up on Uncle Sal’s Take for more raw meat on Mets, Yanks, and Dustin Pedroia.
Brass Boxes 4-11-09
Yanks win. Mets win.
CC Sabathia was lightening. I’ll temper my enthusiasm with the fact that the Kansas City Royals don’t hit on a good day, but, you have to beat teams like that and you have to do it often. Yanks went 6-6 versus the Royals last year. That’s not good enough. Nick Swisher is my idol. Until next week.
Livan Hernandez has guts. So does Ryan Church. So does Jose Reyes.
Happy Easter.

WP – Burnett (1-0) LP – Simon (0-1)
The Yankees saved a little face today against the Orioles, sparked by Nick Swisher’s enthusiastic slugging and a strong debut from #3 starter A.J. Burnett. The Orioles take the series 2-1.
Baltimore starter Alfredo Simon (in only his second Major League start) was impressive through the first three innings, retiring the first six batters in order. The Yanks threatened in the third with a one-out slap single from Brett Gardner and a seven-pitch walk issued to Jose Molina, but… (more…)

YANKEES IN LAST PLACE! METS TIED FOR DIVISION LEAD!
Technically, Yanks are in last place. CM Wang is on the hill today versus Koji Uehara (like kung fu vs karate), and with a win, Wang could possibly turn the entire season around.
Mets are already in the thick of the NL East pennant chase. Mike Pelfrey – Mets4ever’s 6th man – gets the call versus Edinson (what’s with the “n”?) Volquez.
The draft went well but with a little hitch. Supe tried logging in but to no avail, or, as I suspect, supe clicked in and saw what a tremendous job LB was doing with his team and decided to sit back and watch the action. Last five rounds went Derek Lowe, Miguel Tejada, Akinori Iwamura, Jake Peavy, and Pat Burrell. LB thanks you for your continued patronage to… (more…)
