Yanks Finally Playing Some Good Ball

Yanks win.  Happy May.

A.J. Burnett went seven deep, gave up four, I’ll take it.  Phil Coke and Mo finished it off.  Gotta love Coke, not just a lefty but a lefty that can get outs versus righties.  Ramiro Pena had himself a double and two RBIs.

Rays win.  I don’t know what’s the bigger story, Matt Garza going 7 2/3 innings, one walk, one hit, ten strikeouts, or the Sox getting buried 13-0.

Cards win AGAIN.

Raissman reflects on the cuddly Jerry Manuel.  We talked about it yesterday.  Ahead of the curve.

  1. Thank God that ain’t happening jrz. Levi haven’t yet watched a full Met game @ Citi yet (just bits & pieces) but the scuttlebutt is that it’s pretty cavernous. Have you been there yet?

  2. Hafner took that pitch in the face and has never been the same. He has been a walking injury since.

Supe- Wright gets locked in and he doesn’t strike out. He may have a career high this year but he won’t keep up that pace. He is striking out at twice the pace he usually does(1 per 3 ab vs 1 per 6 ab).

  3. Yankees-Red Sox on Monday

  4. AJAX can K 1/3….bring him up….haha

  5. Tampa Bay beat the Red Sox, two in a row. Red Sox have lost three of their last four games. It started when they blew an 8-3 lead aginst The Indians on Tuesday.

  6. I haven’t been to Citi yet but may go to Yanks-Mets at the Stadium in June.

Citi is just way too big. They must have had a crystal ball on what their staff would look like.

  7. Joe, they just aint the same team on the road as they are at fenway.Maybe there is something to all that talk about them stealing signs at home.

  8. J- That’s what I mean about the double standard and that isn’t directed at anyone here. AJAX has struck out at that pace for 3 years now in the minor leagues. Wright is doing it and it is the end of the world. It’s not good but what will they do to this kid if he comes up and does it in the Bronx? He’s going to be a very good player in the major leagues as long as he learns to hit the breaking stuff. Don’t rush him.

  9. Mark Fidrych is about to finish off The Yanks, on National TV. I saw this game live, when I was 10 years old.

  10. Shoe- I don’t know what it is but the pitching around the Majors has been very uneven. I’m starting to think it had something to do with ST being so long on top of the fact that the pitching in general is just diluted. It is almost as if these guys had so long to prepare that they didn’t and weren’t ready to start the season.

  11. Levi, I agree. You saw what I said yesterday about him needing to stay where he is for the season instead of rushing him and EFFING him up to the point he has to start NEXT season in SWB.

    jrzinbatonrouge May 1, 2009 at 11:22 pm
  12. I did J- I was in agreement then as I am now. That is why they were willing to take their chances with Gardner/Melky this year, because 2010 is AJAX time. See you in September, maybe August-see how it goes. Don’t rush this kid.

  13. I still got a shot with Chipper. They are in a rain delay in Atlanta. I need Houston to score 5 runs in 2 innings after it stops raining, tie it, have the game go to extra innings, Chipper get 2 more ab’s and 2
    hits……………………………………….

Great game you got here Lib.

  14. We are on the same page when it comes to development then.If Melky can become the .285/15+/80+(depending on where he hits)that I thought he could before last year and Jackson turns into the player he can be, the Yankees are going to have a very young and talented OF for the foreseeable future.

  15. LEVI: The agents, and the managers, and the coaches, and the press cut the balls off of all major league pitchers little by little, from 1985-1995. They haven’t had any since. Roger Clemens won TWO Cy Young Awards without completing a game. A STARTING PITCHER winning TWO Cy Youngs with ZERO complete games!

    coltsoriolesbullet May 1, 2009 at 11:32 pm
  16. Ask BOB GIBSON what he thinks of a pitcher winning TWO Cy Young Awards without completing a single game. Never mind a shutout. HE DIDN’T EVEN COMPLETE ONE GAME!

  17. jrz I think we’re looking @ a Melk/JD/Gardner OF the rest of this series. Lineup just keeps getting shorter.

  18. Omar says Wright and Reyes lack “edge”….just what they said on MLBN…not sure what it means but there it is.

    jrzinbatonrouge May 1, 2009 at 11:36 pm
  19. Supe, that aint gonna scare anybody.

    jrzinbatonrouge May 1, 2009 at 11:37 pm
  20. Unshod, its a different game.Sad BUT true.

    jrzinbatonrouge May 1, 2009 at 11:38 pm
  21. Monday is the biggest game of the year for The Yanks. They can’t lose that game, or it will be four straight against The Red Sox. Too much momentum.

    coltsoriolesbullet May 1, 2009 at 11:39 pm
  22. u said it jrz.

  23. Stata buon men. Good night for both squads…until tomorrow your bro supernaut924 reminds you to keep in touch w/ yourselves.

  24. Omar is another guy who hasn’t won anything and loves to pop off like he has. Steve Phillips was like that too and now he is playing footsy with Morgan and Miller in a tv booth.

I would love to see Reyes and Wright both walk when their contracts are up. They lack edge. Beltran doesn’t slide TWICE in one week- I GUESS THAT IS THE EDGE OMAR IS LOOKING FOR! HE AND HIS BUDDY FRANFATSO can trade Wright and I can’t wait to see them make up the production.

  25. Sorry Unshod-lol I was about to tell you how right you were when Supe posted about Omar, the gm who has won NOTHING, and drove me over THE EDGE.

Why do they still pay starters the big bucks when they are NEVER in the game when it is decided?

  26. Peavy-Kershaw gem going in LA.

Makes flying out there even more attractive J.

  27. I am out guys, catch up aith yas tomorrow.Goodnight.

    jrzinbatonrouge May 1, 2009 at 11:49 pm
  28. Night J,Shoe,Supe

    I’m out too.

  29. THE ORIOLES are one year away from a winning season.(THANK YOU ANDY MacPHAIL). Until then we will here endless rants on The Baltimore Sun about how we shouldn’t have thrown this season away, how we can rebuild and win at the same time, etc. In 2010, when we have our first winnings season since 1997, these jackoffs will do more back-peddling than Paul Blair did when he made all of those great catches in center-field.

    coltsoriolesbullet May 2, 2009 at 7:38 am
  30. Oh to be Jake Peavy. He threw 8 innings of 2 hit ball, gave up no runs and struck out 8 and your team loses 1-0 on a walk, actually three, by your reliever to Russell Martin in the ninth.
