Despite tying the major league record for consecutive errorless games at 17, the Yanks lost. Mark Teixeira, whose scoop is a big reason why the Yanks are fifth in fielding pct. and third in fewest errors, can keep breaking to first base on grounders to the right side if he also keeps putting runs on the board. Him and Robbie Cano can have a contest, whoever can’t drive runs in consistently from MOTO has to run around the infield making extra plays. No one looks stronger giving up four runs in five innings than Phil Hughes. Yanks are still up 2-1 in the series and face the Indians again at 7pm, it’s Joba Chamberlain versus Jeremy Sowers. $10 on Joba to bounce back, 6 innings, 2 runs, 6 Ks.
John Maine posted win number five for a team that takes bad clams on the chin and keeps huffing and puffing. The Mets starters have been on a tear, save a handful of Tomko innings, going back to before interleagues. J.J. Poo was lifted for Parnell in the eighth – hmmm. Tonight, it’s Livan Hernandez versus Ian Snell.

We were talking about the Rays the other day Kev.
would’ve been nice to push across that 6th run so a salami can only tie, not win it. Cervelli in to catch bottom 9?
Darling: Putz is a transistor radio. hmmm
SPIRIT, this Bud’s for you (gotta say that, cause this post definitely places me in full geek mode for at least tonight … Your 8:55 post, to wit: Has anyone ever won the Quadruple Crown (AVG, HR, RBI, RS)? It’s happened nine times: Yaz (’67), Frank Robby (’66). The Mick (’56), Ted Williams, TWICE (’42 & ’47), Ducky Medwick (’37), Hornsby (’22), Ty Cobb (’09, Shoe’s year of birth), and some guy named Nap Lajoie (’01). ONLY THE MICK AND TED W. (’42) HAVE EVER WON THE MAJOR LEAGUE QUADRUPLE CROWN!!!
supe, just shows to go ya. If you’re still breathing tomorrow, + 1. And who knows, so hug those you love, and forgive those you hate.
The last living survivor from the Titanic died a couple days ago. She was 99 ( 2 at the time of the accident ). The most storied disaster that any of us will ever know, and the book is closed.
I don’t know about trading himjust yet unless we get a legit bat! I agree Lev, that should have been Stokes.
you said it spirit, no doubt. Kev would you trade Parnell & Murphy for Calros Pena & Matt Garza?
Murphy is hitting .243 and slumping so let’s hit him 3.
Wright slumping at .280 and he’s dropped out of the 3 spot.
Murphy now has 140 ab and is hitting .243. If he did this in his 130 ab last year, he wouldn’t even be on the squad this year, never mind hitting third. I’m sick of this nonsense.
NICE, NAT!!!!
I’m not trading Parnell when Putz can’t get anyone out.
It’s last year all over again then.
The Rays wouldn’t do that trade.
I’ll give ya putz and murphy.
The first 5 guys in the lineup were 1 for 18 tonight against the Pirates. Nice.
Putz, not Parnell! I’d never trade a young arm unless absolutely necessary.
MO with the save.
ML record, 18 straight games without an error. Beats the Red Sox in ’06. It’s all about the little things.
Tag it & bag it Yankee fans! Sweet play by Mo to close it out on the high chop from Choo.
Choo chop!
Has Manuel given his post game yet?
lou, lev, mets, kev, g’night!
Nat, too!
Not yet….better DVR it! I usually don’t get it the first time around.
Buenas!
Tag it and bag it?
thats something a yankee fan in white satin yank jacket would say.
im outta here.
CSI
No white satin jacket here buddy…don’t get sour because your boys defecated the mattress on the road…with the lead…against one of the worst teams in the majors…and don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Speaking of defecated, Beltran better throw a Depends on tomorrow and get back on the field.
Good one Levi…so the Mets need a power bat & a starter yes? How ’bout Gonzalez from SD? Parnell needs to supplant Putz as the 8th inning guy.
Jerry just said that. If that is in his mind, that he has 8th inning stuff, why does he bring him in for 1 out in the sixth tonight? Again, no one questions Jerry, even after Cohen brought it up during the broadcast.
Gonzalez and Peavy and the Padres can have Buffalo in return.
Only kidding. I don’t think that Gonzalez will be traded because he has a pretty cheap contract and if Peavy goes, there isn’t much else to see at Petco Park.
lib, I was told that the ( former ) record for errorless games was by the Redbirds ( 16 ), who did it twice.
The Sawx was just the AL record ( 15 ).
Congrats.
Plus Levi IMO ya gotta wonder about Peavy’s moxie & desire to pitch for a contender in a media pressure cooker…check that…THE media pressure cooker that is NY.
You do have to wonder Supe about a guy who only wants to go to a team that’s not in a big city. Does he want to win? No Chicago, No NY, no Boston?
Peavy can be had, but only in the NL. Scary what Gonzalez ( J Rod’s brother ) would do outside of Petco. But they’d never sell the team with him gone. He’s the lynch pin to a sale.
SNT reported that Oswalt might be for the taking. He hates the mgr., and would wave his NT clause to go to a contender.
spirit, did you catch my earlier post to you?
Yeah Lou, but there are reports he would veto the White Sox. That’s 2 in a week. Maybe no one wants to play for Guillen.
The Padres sale has already been put in motion. Moorad is running the team and his ownership group purchased 15% of the club which escalates to 100% over the next few years.
Not sure if you guys talked about this yet:
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090601&content_id=5091450&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
nat, I’m not sure. Today ?
Lev, that’s where I heard that Gonzalez is untouchable. They want to do a Longoria type deal to keep season ticket holders.
spirit, 10:16, Quadruple Crown …
Sorry Lou, I misunderstood you. I agree that the new owners want to keep Gonzalez and lock him up.
Thanks nat, I just saw it.
Great stuff, next round’s on me.
Lev … Molina tweaked the quad? OK. Nady elbow barking? Also bad news, but not totally surprised. But Damaso Marte stubbed his pinky toe??? STFU and rub some dirt on it, dude!!!
Someone should show Marte a replay of what Pujols did to his ankle tonight sliding into second … and he stayed in the f-ing game! Man up, Marte!
no sweat lev, who wouldn’t want him.
nat, you should check Baseball Reference for the Napster. Many ( including the shoedog ) would argue that he was the best Indian ever. HOFer.
All the best to you and yours, folks, let’s do this again tomorrow.
nite, spirit. On the original Napster, anyone who can drive in 125 runs while hitting only 14 HRs (dead ball era) has gotta be a hittin fool.
Stubbed toe-lol
That reminds me. Beltran’s new nickname is “The Soiler”.
Their top five went 1 for 18 tonight while he had a stomach virus. Pop a couple of Immodium capsules and get on the field.
The Orioles win, 1-0. Seven shutout innings from Rich Hill. 11th save of the year for Georgie Boy Sherrill.
