Subway Sweep (sorry, I just had to)

Yankees win, Mets lose.

Congrats to Mariano Rivera, one of the best all time – a competitive and noble sportsman who just reached save # 500.

That said, I’ll take a sweep, a healthy Wang, and a strong pair of Aces as the Yanks move within three games of the Sox.  Would have loved to go .500 against the Sox – that would put the Yanks in a dead heat entering July instead of wheelsucking through the turns. As opposed to previous seasons, it has so far been a great pleasure to watch the Yankees play infield and that has EVERYTHING to do with Mark Teixeira.  Brian Bruney is starting to resemble a sixth Village Person.  No one wants to pitch to ARod anymore.  Yanks don’t really have an alternative to batting Robbie Cano fifth.

Lots of goodies tossed out by the Mets pinata, lots of great plays along with, but a whole lot more goodies.  Dan Murphy led off.  Whatever’s left of Jerry Manuel’s brains must be depleted by now, judging from that feat of rostering (and his manifold 5-pitch intentional walks).  Watching Jerry Manuel manage is like watching Mexican soap opera without subtitles: you try anxiously to follow the twisted plot unfold without an inkling as to where it will take anyone or why anything is happening.  After an hour a big red question mark appears above your head and you just have to change the channel at that point.  Taco Time is SO appropriate.  Livan Hernandez usually improves as the season progresses, so the sky is the limit for El Caballo.  Jose Reyes needs to come back RIGHT NOW!

  1. Someone has been watching Telemundo. LOL

I do like Taco Time, and I have made it my dinner choice for this evening.

    Ole !

  2. Hey Yankees, you can take your crappy mayors trophy’s and shove them right up your asses!

    See you next year bitches!

  3. morning Fellas

Yes the three wins we’re very important in catching Boston, outside of that, the drums are locked in the studio.

Libs Robbie’s splits are getting worse. Maybe a switch with Posada in the line up would merit some thought. Robbie always did better this year down in the order, let the old pro Posada guard Big Al’s gun-side for a bit, see what happens. Yes congrats to Mo. LB well put describing him in your post.

Kev hang in there. Maybe Wilpon should show up in court with the other creditors looking for some of his dough back . The injuries are a devastation no doubt, but Wilpon not enhancing your line up or pitching rotation wasn’t a smart move. He left Omar with no back up plan to combat Any injuries, An Ibanez a Dunn or a Hudson would have helped. a Wolf or Garland in the rotation to help out wouldn’t have hurt either.

  4. Is Wakefield really 10-3 ?

    Wow.

  5. Anybody catch the “Sunday Convo” w/ Mo on espn?

Classy and soft spoken, so basically the complete opposite of yours truely.Seriously though, the man is the epitome of class.

  6. Wang has a long way to go. He was pretty wild, threw a lot of pitches up in the strike zone and likely would have been clobbered by a good hitting team. He’s not close to being the old Wang yet and both Boston and Tampa Bay would expose him right now. I wouldn’t want to see him in a big game.

  7. He’s taking baby steps, sure. A win is a win is a win, Wang’s first.

    No one like Mo.

Locked the drums…hahaha…brings back good memories.

  8. Donuts!

  9. Who’s rooting for The Orioles today ?

    coltsoriolesbullet June 29, 2009 at 9:57 am
  10. Besides you,I am pulling for them.

  11. Big O’s fan here.

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 10:07 am
  12. Who are they playing?

  13. duh

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 10:09 am
  14. I know kev is already gone, but we stuck the mayors trophy up the mets ass, with a broom.

  15. Lib, I know Levi said he wouldnt be around for awhile and I didnt even think to ask if everything was ok in Leviland.I hope it is and just wondering if you know when he will be back around

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 10:14 am
  16. Everything is fine in Leviaville as far as I know. Don’t know when he returns. Probably sometime this week.

  17. Interleague al east standings=TB 13-5 O’s&Sux 11-7
Yanks 10-8 Jays 7-11 Rays have been cleaning up in interleague play the last 2 years, surprised the Yanks only lost 1 game to the sux

  18. good.

  19. Connecting a few dots that Uncle Sal drew up, here’s Hughes game-by-game log…he has 1.50 ERA since they moved him to the pen, the only runs coming off the “psychic” Red Sox offense:

    http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/stats/individual_player_gamebygamelog.jsp?c_id=nyy&playerID=461833&statType=2

Makes you think you are looking at the next closer when he takes the mound in the eighth. He certainly has that kind of ice in his veins.

  20. Pardon, seventh inning…oops…now you can see why Bruney is all destabilized. I think he’s on the outs.

  21. New Munson bio coming out, NYT link at left.

“In the autobiography, Munson described a tension-free scene with “happy faces” awaiting him at home in Canton when he signed his first Yankee contract in 1967. The new book had the Munson house “buzzing with excitement” except for Darrell Munson, hollering to the assembled family and friends, “He ain’t too good on pop fouls, you know!””

  22. Good Morning boys…went to my first game @ Citi Field last night…free ducat courtesy of a friend’s friend. Sat in section 528, row 13. Way up there in the upper deck on the 3rd base side. Didn’t walk the whole place unfortunately but overall I thought it was pretty cool. Can’t see plays in the LF corner from those seats but you can just watch it on the big screen. Certainly plenty of food concession stands! As for the game, there isn’t one other team in MLB that Dan Murphy can start for…the Irish Butcher seems to have taken his blade to 1B w/ him from LF. And why no Church starting against a RHP? As a Yankee fan @ the end of the day we pick up a game on the pink hats & that’s all that matters.

  23. Wasn’t Murphy called the next Don Mattingly by some our met colleagues?

  24. HAHAHA…I still can’t believe Manuel is leading him off.

  25. You sample the fresh jalapenos, Supe? Wondering how long all those bells and whistles will stay on the funwagon.

  26. you yankee pricks can be real assholes.

  27. Would you bat Murphy first? I wouldn’t.

Also, I loved the fresh jalapenos. I know they aren’t so cheap to be giving them away for free. So that’s why I wonder how long that lasts.

  28. 1st, 2ns, 3rd…it doesnt matter right now.

  29. mets suck right now. believe me, i watch the god damn games. yankee fans know better I guess.

  30. fresh jalapenos? sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team…I am just gonna let that one sit out there for a minute.

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 11:06 am
  31. Ha yeah LB I actually did throw a few on my Premio sausage last night! Kev listen we all know you’re smitten w/ Murphy cuz he’s a shanty Irishman like yourself but let’s face facts: right now the guy sucks. He can’t hit, he can’t field. He’s a corner infielder w/ what 4 HRs & an OBP of 30%?

  32. rub our noses in it. we can take it. we have thicker skin for obvious reasons.

yanks have a ton of issues but highlighting the mets weaknesses is the easy topic of choice.

  33. Supe – Yeah. He cant field. He’s a retard at first and sucked in the OF.

  34. supe – and you are an out of shape greasy meatball. whats your point?

  35. Doesn’t matter? Get a hold of yourself man!!! [slap] [slap] [slap]

Listen, Reyes is coming back, the Shout! therapy and mood stabilizers have been setting Ollie back on track, you know Wagner’s not down for teh count…your a month or two away from a turnaround. The Phils aren’t really going anywhere yet.

  36. My old man is a mets fan and we were watching the game last night. When murphy went to 3rd in the 1st inning the old man finally showed me after 36 years just where I get “it” from

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 11:10 am
  37. bad day to log onto a yankee website I guess. My team SUCKS!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!

  38. pardon, “the”, “you’re”.

    Fresh Jalapenos…hee

  39. I need a new remote.

  40. That’s a beautiful story, J. Warms the heart!

  41. The old man is quiet, never lets ya know what he is thinking, EVER.But on that play, that quiet, conserved shit went right out the window.

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 11:13 am
  42. I bet you need a new remote.I would also bet that the one from last night wasnt the original either.

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 11:14 am
  43. jrz – i should have watched the game with your old man.

  44. Watching Murphy is like watching a lowlight reel (not highlight) of every crappy play I ever wanted to take back from T-Ball onward.

  45. i’ll send krod the bill. the walk put me over the edge. god dman the mets can be embarassing. im stuck with these misfits until death.

thank god Im a Giants fan

  46. he was fired up, Kev.

    jrzinbatonrouge June 29, 2009 at 11:16 am
  47. Kev sounds like somebody didn’t have their bangers & mash today…you need to lighten up & grow a sense of humor son. And as out of shape as you percieve me to be (how you have any insight as to what shape I’m actually in is beyond me) anytime you want to hit the softball field or anywhere else, please let me know. But facts are facts & Murphy right now is simply not a ML caliber player. Now it’s not all his fault…I’m sure getting stuck in LF, predictably struggling there defensively & hearing it from the fans & media…has not done wonders for his confidence @ the plate.

  48. supe – blow it out your guinzo ass. go have anothe sausage and pepper chubby.

YOU need the sense of humor son.

  49. and I’ll run circles around you on the softball field. thats a guarantee old man. anytime.

  50. easy boys.
