Yanks stepped down off the plane on the wrong foot. Joba Chamberlain can’t seem to win ballgames – or even pitch well lately. Can he hack it as a starter? Well, at least he’s saying something meaningful:
“It’s frustrating — I’m letting my teammates down,” Chamberlain said. “It’s kind of embarrassing, too. At the end of the day, we’ve got the second half to get better and I still can’t change the past. I can learn from it and just continue to grow.”
Second half? You had a game to play last night, Joba. Another feat of top-notch umpiring resulted in Jorge Posada sensing, “make a play or lose the out”. You have a fielder going for the ball in foul territory and you have the batter rubbing up on him like a hungry cat. Didn’t cost the game, but what difference does that make? Awful umpiring. ARod keeps crushing the ball. Mark Melancon pitched better than his numbers. Bruney still sucks.
The Mets reacted to the Church-Francouer trade by getting strait-jacketed by Bronson Arroyo, who dominated with a 115-pitch odyssey. Fernando Nieves ably held the Reds to two worked-for-it runs and a giveaway on botched rundown, and the pen pinned the Reds down for three innings, but you have to score runs in this game. The Mets should add Jeff to the middle of the lineup; perhaps this trade is an indication that Omar is looking to rebuild for life after Carlos Delgado, who has a $4M buyout implicit to his contract. Jeff Francouer is not Carlos Delgado, but Omar always seems tempted to gloss over the absence of a single great player by picking up two mediocre ones. (Same thing is happening to the Yankees in the outfield, making LB wonder where all the outfielders have gone). You can’t base a lineup around Jeff Francouer; at the very least you get an excellent rightfielder to range around the vast meadows at Citi Field with some power in his upside. What’s the next move, Omar?

Budz is at it again wow. i used to think maybe it was a DN worker because everytime I would post within 5 minutes he would log on as me. It’s Jerkz, and yankPR I think that’s the name is another one of his names sicko man. the DN has a real problem with this cat. damn.. It’ll be nice to get at least one out there. 26 come from behind wins for LA
BUDDIO: Yeah, the promoters of the fight put the heat on Gamache. In hindsight, it is easy to say that Gamache still should have refused to fight, BUT, when it’s your career, money, and they put pressure on you, you don’t always think straight. It’s too bad, because Gamache was a good, clean fighter, entertaining and talented. The good news is that today Gamache is doing well, and he is training fighters with the legendary Emmanuel Steward.
See yas tonight fellas, hopefully. Going down to the Church for another fund-raiser. Traveling team is starting and some of the kids need a hand. I’ll be sure to light a few candles for LB & Supe….. Maybe even have a shot with the father. God Bless brothers and my deepest condolences.
That’s good Joe good to hear he’s got a good gig. Good luck M4. So joe you think they rubbed Gatti out, or it’s just a coincidence?
I think that they killed him, BUDDIO. I think that organized crime is not nearly as prevalent in the boxing game today as it was in the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s, but a few probably still linger around.
……… Or, it may not necessarily have been organized crime, but I still think that he was murdered in relation to his future court testimony. It could have been a small group of thugs that were involved in the Gamache fight, but they may not have any ties to organized crime. Either way, I think that Gatti was bumped off.
The only person to comment on The Thurman Munson article so far is a loser Oriole fan.

Me too Joe.
Even Pete Abraham commented on the babes in the LA stands and he gets paid to be serious. UPDATE, 5:03 p.m.: Andrew Eugene dealing. Yankees lead 3-0. Meanwhile there are literally at least two hot babes in every row of the stands behind home plate here. I don’t know how people watch the game game here. BBT noticing the talent in the stands, ahead of the curve hahahaha
Nice debut for Francoeur. Liked his postgame pulse.
Nice win by the Amazins.
Road back to .500 is uphill but a lot of ball to play.
LETS GO METS!
Dandy Andy my ass.
MELVIN MORA hits a WALK-OFF HOME RUN in the BOTTOM OF THE TWELFTH INNING !
Orioles 4
Blue Jays 3
BTW- Smoltz threw 5 innings, let up 1 run, and had 7 k when he left with a 9-1 lead. The bright side is that the Sux used 5 pitchers in the next 4 innings with Masterson giving up 5 runs while only getting 1 out.
Yeah Lev that is the better news. I was checking their stat lines, I didn’t realize that Ellsbury is their leading hitter @ .301, the PaperBoy is sitting at .300, their 7th in the league in hitting, and that could be a bump up with Van Every hitting .364 and Wakefield @ .500 1 for 2. Van Every has played in 7 games.
If Cashman was watching the last two days and I assume he was, he should address this rotation by the end of the deadline. I wouldn’t mind Washburn if Seattle decides to sell, off the top of my head he comes to mind, I’m gonna check to see who else might be available. I’d take Arroyo also, but I’m not sure he would play in the clubhouse after the purse incident. Give Joba and Andy a little backup
“they’re 7th in the league” (sorry)
yeah good job by the metsies and the pitching staff. Frenchie had a nice debut, amazing what a little change of scenery and some inspiration will do. Is Church the last guy Jerry didn’t like, or are we gonna see a few more dumps?
Johnathan Sanchez has been on the block all season. I was hoping the yankees would take a look this winter, they never did. From what I read Sanchez doesn’t have a go to pitch and is suited better as a reliever. He seemed to go to something to pitch a no hitter, and with Johnson getting hurt the giants may have pulled him off the block. He also is arbitration eligible after 09, and that limits who will go after him. I would take a look, Cashman probably has insider info on Sanchez, and there might be more to it. Giants need a power bat. I like Hinske and if Pena comes up the bench is getting shored up. 2 HR’s yesterday for Hinske is a power bat.
Pedro is a physical away from signing with the Phils according to Fox. for a lower number than the 5 million we heard.
if i were the yanks, i’d include joba for halladay, no problem. joba, montero, betances? just throwing it out there.
