Yanks Laid Bare; Arroyo Rounds Up Met Hitters

Yanks loseMets lose.

Yanks stepped down off the plane on the wrong foot.  Joba Chamberlain can’t seem to win ballgames – or even pitch well lately.  Can he hack it as a starter?  Well, at least he’s saying something meaningful:

“It’s frustrating — I’m letting my teammates down,” Chamberlain said. “It’s kind of embarrassing, too. At the end of the day, we’ve got the second half to get better and I still can’t change the past. I can learn from it and just continue to grow.”

Second half?  You had a game to play last night, Joba.  Another feat of top-notch umpiring resulted in Jorge Posada sensing, “make a play or lose the out”.  You have a fielder going for the ball in foul territory and you have the batter rubbing up on him like a hungry cat.  Didn’t cost the game, but what difference does that make?  Awful umpiring.  ARod keeps crushing the ball.  Mark Melancon pitched better than his numbers.  Bruney still sucks.

The Mets reacted to the Church-Francouer trade by getting strait-jacketed by Bronson Arroyo, who dominated with a 115-pitch odyssey.  Fernando Nieves ably held the Reds to two worked-for-it runs and a giveaway on botched rundown, and the pen pinned the Reds down for three innings, but you have to score runs in this game.  The Mets should add Jeff to the middle of the lineup; perhaps this trade is an indication that Omar is looking to rebuild for life after Carlos Delgado, who has a $4M buyout implicit to his contract.  Jeff Francouer is not Carlos Delgado, but Omar always seems tempted to gloss over the absence of a single great player by picking up two mediocre ones.  (Same thing is happening to the Yankees in the outfield, making LB wonder where all the outfielders have gone).  You can’t base a lineup around Jeff Francouer; at the very least you get an excellent rightfielder to range around the vast meadows at Citi Field with some power in his upside.  What’s the next move, Omar?

  11. JRZ: Yeah, I was kind of catching on anyway, with “JRZY”. I noticed the “Y”, but I still thought it might be you, because I thought that you might have been banned, and signed up again. Then I saw his posts about “giving up,” and I got suspicious.

  12. I like Manny. He’s a head case, but he’s also a hittin’ fool, the best there is this side of Poo Holes. But he STILL should not be mentioned in the same sentence with the guy he just tied (hint: see my gravatar).

  13. Mets, I think it’s OK by now. Although it’s been hilarious.

  14. Can you imagine him pacing around his filthy 1 room shack right now trying to figure out his next move and scared about how he will fill his days now?

    Bravo, Unshod.

  20. You know, when you drop comments and leave your email, you might as well tell him where the spare key is. I’d start checking the trees around the house for “Red Dragon” etchings. I’d be looking out for suspicious vans around the neighborhood.

  21. hey Joey thanks for the back up on the DN. I’m glad somebody did it, I wouldn’t have done it, I thought about it, but it wasn’t my place, so you did me a favor, I owe you one. These some bitches sure are a pain in the ass with all these singles and doubles and taking extra bases jesus, and Abreu is getting his revenge

  33. Sal, who was he testifying against and about what?

    jrzinbatonrouge July 11, 2009 at 6:26 pm
  34. I’ve never been more happy to just watch lefties step in the box. The one in the yellow just rubbed herself down.

  35. Brazil, Sally? No surprise there man. You can barely tell who the good guys are down there, the few that are left anyway. That’s crazy news. I think the Gatti/Ward fights are some of the best I’ve ever seen.

  36. Running all over us. These Angels get faster when the Yanks are in town, I swear it.

  37. Read the link, thanks Sal.

Get a load of this…..70 or 80 saves?
If you score 5 or more runs per game you should win all of those games with decent pitching, decent setup men and a great closer. So go figure it out! The starting pitchers of the Yankees are good enough but once the setup men come in Adios game! Oh some here may site the Yankees rise in the standings to chasing the Red Sox. But fact is that they are there beating on the weaker teams. But once they go head to head with the Rays, LA and Boston, things don´t go so well. Especially now that those teams are all warmed up and hitting well. You always find the difference is the setup pitchers most always can´t hold the game. Its too bad cause if they did hold up Mariano would end up at the end of the season with 70 to 80 saves. Until this problem is corrected there will never be no more championships. It should also be pointed out that the Yanks made a big mistake giving up Abreu. They should have given up Cabrera and Cano instead.

  38. Going out to a buddy’s to watch UFC. Later fellas. Enjoy.

  39. they let him weigh in 20 pounds heavier than Gamache. Gamache probably walks around 165 170 so he works his ass off to make weight then puts on 5 to 6 pounds before the fight but you can’t compete against a middle weight, especially if he weighed in say 150 then put on 8 to 10 pounds before the fight. Billy Costello would be famished to make weight at 140 when he was fighting, billy walks around the construction site around 180 then gets a budget to train 6 weeks to lose 40 pounds. That’s what beat Duran in the second Leonard fight, no mas, he was to fat before the fight playing congas in his salsa band

  40. the big Hinske is starting to grow on me… later Libs

  41. Soup and Lib sorry to hear about your misfortunes.

  42. BUDDIO: At the time of the fight, Gamache weighed 144, and Gatti weighed 161. I remember it. 17 pounds. Gamache wanted to refuse to fight, but the boxing commissions threatened to revoke his license if he did. It was fucking bullshit.

    coltsoriolesbullet July 11, 2009 at 6:57 pm
  43. BUDDIO: For the second Ray Leonard fight, Duran flat out didn’t train in a dedicated manner as he did for the first fight. He went into a sauna, and dehydrated himself in the last 48 hours before the fight. Leonard wanted an immediate rematch, figuring Duran would eat himself out of shape after his first win, which he did. Duran was stupid to take the rematch that quickly.

  44. So, did the crazy Buddioo just accidentally reveal another personality? Is he BradyChix? Is he Buffalo Bill?
+++Gary, Brian, Musker, give Bradychix a break, this lady has always been an informed fan. I’ve been posting with her for years and she only says the things she thinks are correct. She doesn’t trash talk but makes real points and as much as I’m a Yankee fan she usually is dead on in her assessments. And I have see her on here when the Sox/Sux have been free falling. Part of being a baseball fan is being able to discuss it with other teams fans and respect each other. She’s an okay egg, but I still hope we kick her Sox’s arse.

  45. I saw that Mac. I think she tried to set-up another user-name and it failed miserably. I don’t whether to laugh or pity her.

  46. it is nuckin futs, whatever it is.This crazy fuck is seriously sitting there all day spinning. It dont know what to do.I always called it pathetic but this is just getting weird. It is actually there basically saying”please talk to me”….Its really pretty sad.

    jrzinbatonrouge July 11, 2009 at 7:33 pm
  47. Shoe I remember sugar ray’s camp wanting the fight right away for the reason your mentioning he wouldn’t train, pretty smart on their behalf, and Duran was money whipped to agree. Shoe did Gatti come in heavy and instead of canceling the fight they just went through with it, or did they rig the scale? Oh I see your post, so they put heat on him, I think I do remember that now, thanks for the refresh, God bless you and your photogenic mind. Jesus I was gonna complain about the underbelly of our bullpen, but even Cokey is getting lit up, and I think it was Kubel or Cuddyer said to one of their beat writers “that lefty is tough” meaning Coke. I thought we had a chance when the back to backs came in the 8th.. damn

  48. how does Cueto look ? What happen to Bruce?
