Nothing to gloat on just yet, here it is July whatever-th and the Yanks have the second best record in baseball with a lot of game to play. Sergio Mitre is not a big man but he put up a fight, and it was enough to stall the dangerously improved Orioles until the big bats got in the game. ARod has been quite the show lately. Xavier Nady isn’t missed, neither is Brian Bruney nor Jose Veras. As a note, Tampa Bay is again showing signs of life. Toughest division in baseball. Yanks go at 1:05pm today, Burnett vs. Berken.
Big John Lannan stayed on top of the Mets and ahead in the count. The Mets couldn’t catch a break at the plate and Ollie Perez couldn’t find the strike zone. Jerry Manuel can’t help himself in press conferences. I can’t write any further. Tonight at 7:05, it’s El Girafe vs. Craig Stammen.

how bout dem 4-0 Yankees…..”deep cleanings” suck, my mouth is so numb I cant drink beer.
WTF, the sox got laroche? which one and who did they give up?
Adam, j. No word on what they gave up.
Persevere, j. I am also enjoying a carbonated malt beverage of an adult nature.
Cheers.
Hey J. They gave up very little. Similar to Yanks on the Hinske deal. P Hunter Strickland and SS Argenis Diaz. Diaz is a defensive star in the system according to BA but no bat. Strickland is a decent righty arm, nothing special.
adams #s .247/12/40 w/ a .329 obp…I guess that puts lowell and his broken hip on the bench.BUT lowell has better #s than laroche. Not sure it makes them better on O but maybe in the field since lowell was sporting a FP under .950
got a straw, Lou.I will be ok. Where theres a will…
Yeah, but LaRoche is a below average defender. I guess it is good insurance in case anything happens to Lowell and it gives them a lefty bat but nothing more than that.
He has a .999 FP Mac.Not sure what theos thinking is here but I have a feeling that lowell is hurt.
Atta boy, j. There is no shame in a drool cup, when it comes to beer. ahahahah
I still expect them to get a SS but I really see this as a “shut up the fans” move after 4 losses and falling out of 1st.
hahahahahahah
Missed Nady on that 1.
Nasty pitch from AJ to get Huff.
redemption for Swisher.
EFF all of yas, I will sit here and talk to myself.
Yeah, I don’t want to get into the metrics debate again but FP is just one stat. Damon had a .992 FP last year and we know what kind of defender he was. I think Theo looks at Lowell as a ticking time bomb that could seriously derail their chances if he goes down. If Anderson was showing a little quicker progress maybe they stand pat. He isn’t, tho. If Lowell goes down what would they do?
I think lowell may already be down but just giving it what he has for the team. The guy has ball
Not sure how ya read the “RF” and “ZR” but laroche is 9.93 rf and 2.504 zr…Tex has a .999 FP, just like laroche and an 8.97 rf and a 2.833 zr.I am still of the school that says ya gotta watch a guy and I have seen as much of laroche at 1st as I have blue moons.
He is still hitting for a better average than most of the team. If Lowell goes down, even with this move, it weakens them. Posada continues to look great.
I agree that if lowell goes down and piss moves to 3rd with laroche at 1st they get weaker.
We’ve all been tere, j

Hello, hello ? Is this thing on ( tap, tap ) ?
Yeah, we don’t get a chance to see LaRoche that much. From what scouts say about him and the stats it seems he is solid at fielding the balls hit to him but lacks range. Two franchises now that have given up on him. And this one for a bag of balls basically.
LaRoche is a very good glove, and has a career OPS of over 900 in the second half of his seasons.
markakis is damn near playing on the warning track in RF
great throw by zaun
BTW, there is no way that the wall in this place is as high as the old place.
look like big days @ the plate for A Rod & Georgie…
Man, the Mets have been absolutely crucified on ESPN radio. All day. By Everyone.
Halladay, take me away !
I had just typed Bruney is starting to get back in form and then had to hit the ol’ backspace. Jones is a beast.
Lots of slivers for Bruney to be pulling out of his ass in the next few months.
A hold for Bruney. Some stats are wonderful.
Who won the game ??? I was watching “Quincy” reruns.
Ha! I use to love Quincy. Looks like Oakland is trying to stir interest in Holliday by saying Yankee scouts have been at Oakland games. I would think they are looking at guys like Zeigler and not Holliday.
Hey, it worked with JP and Halladay.
I’d love to have Holliday. Splits / Shits, the guy can rake.
I think that Bruney gave up those two home runs on purpose, just so that MARIANO RIVERA could pad his save statistic with a one-out save.
Sorry, but I don’t think that Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman, or any “closer” in the last 25 years can be considered as good as Teckulve, Lyle, Fingers, McGraw, Gossage etc, when it is NOT UNUSUAL to get a one-out save. Perhaps Rivera and the others MAY HAVE been as great or better than those players if they ever had the chance. THEY NEVER DID have that chance. They were all programmed to be ultra-short pitchers, in which a two-inning save is considered “a gutty performance.”
After delaying Omar’s press conference twice, they had it, and SNY chose to not carry it.
Curious.
The Yankees are down 2 games to 1 in the best-of-five series against The Royals in the 1977 ALCS. Their backs are to the wall. The Yankees need to win this game, and then win again the following night……. The Yankees need SIX SHUTOUT INNINGS out of their bullpen. ON NO REST, Lyle comes out… and pitches ALL SIX INNINGS of SHUTOUT baseball… ON NO REST! The Yankees win Game Four, to force a fifth and deciding game in Kansas City. NO WAY is Lyle available after pitching SIX SHUTOUT INNINGS the night before, right ? WRONG!!! THE VERY NEXT NIGHT after pitching SIX shutout innings, Lyle comes out of the bullpen to pitch one and two-thirds more scoreless innings to get the win for The Yankees.
Let’s see Rivera, Hoffmna, Papelbon, etc. DO ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE to that!!!
Holy shit, now Gammons is reading the Mets the riot act.
The guys from the olden times were a different breed, LaFoote.
So, do you want Sherrill gone, or no ?
I want Sherrill to stay.
Yes they are a different breed. A BETTER BREED. More expectations, better performances, and a lot less pats on the backs for minor achievements (such as a one-out save).
Joe, you think your boys can help us out in boston this weekend?
JRZ: Sure, my boys can help you out in Boston. What do you need? Airfare? Snacks on the plane ride?
O’s wins is what I want.
“Greed is good!”
damn straight
Oh. No, sorry, can’t help you there, JRZ.
Tillman is coming up this week. There is a chance that we can break a 119 year-old major-league record that we already have tied.
tillman is cumming?
