I was out and about all of yesterday, seeing big donut specialists and confirming that the oven’s working properly. I had no eyes on the game, thus, no snappy Libertyisms for the chaps today. Looking over the comments…thanks to, I believe it was Nooger who delivered a nice number yesterday – .500 ball from here on out means 90 wins, right in Shoe’s sweet spot for playoff-making. Nick Swisher is picking it up again.
Matsui-san, you are an honorable employee.
For those of you that missed Ghost’s Bernazard drop yesterday, here’s a fellow blogger that just about collects every recent/historical link out there to paint a picture of starving anarchy in the Mets’ offices. That said, Angel Pagan was the entire offense yesterday as Mike Pelfrey wasted seven solid innings vs. the Nats. On top of that, Jose Castillo quietly called Blue a “pedder-ass” and got himself tossed. I wonder what he’s calling Barnyard these days.

I think a deal is in the happening to provide insurance. It could be either for a relief or starting pitcher. I like Ziegler. Cashman always does something by the deadline. Although there are more solid relief pitchers in the system to come up right now as opposed to starting pitchers with Kennedy and Kontos hurt. Dunn, Whelan, Texeira, Marte are all guys that could come up but I think we will see a deal happen.
Mac-My 12:25 post agreed with your 12:28 post about the 100 pitch/outing target.
My point is that they had a plan and it didn’t include Hughes in the eighth. Now that they have solved the eighth why would they solve a different problem by messing with the one they think they have solved?
He has to do something because his set up man and most viable 6th starter are the same guy. That’s a problem and he knows it.
well put.
Well, that is why I think Aces is the guy if a deal doesn’t happen. He is older and has less upside than Hughes but can be a solid 5th starter. But, if you are going into the post-season, Wang is down, and Joba is not in the rotation who would you rather have be 1-4? CC/AJ/Pettite/Hughes or CC/AJ/Pettite/Mitre or Aces?
Well let me raise my glass of Jimmy Beam Black & wish the young man/lady (sorry bro did you say you had a boy or a girl?) a happy birthday. Hey man we have a couple of July events in common: your kid’s bday, 7/25 my wedding anniversary. Heave ho 7 in a row! 2.5 up on the idle Pink Hats…life is good in Yankeeland right about now.
Thanks J- We are all talking around the same point. Cashman knows it too.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a guy like Davis from Arizona even though he just had his worst start of the year against Colorado. Perfect fifth starter on a team that scores a ton of runs who gives you the innings.
I would rather go with a 3 man rotation, especially with the 28 year old HORSE thasts makin 20+ per goin every 4th game.
Did somebody say ,”can score runs”…Yankees AL ranks…
BA 2
OBP 1
SLG 1
runs 1
hits 3
2B 4
3B 9
HR 1
RBI 1

Well that’s the other option that works with CC but not so well I think with AJ and Pettitte most of all.
And we have to see CC perform in the post season too. I think he can but he has to prove it. Need to have contingencies in place with these stakes.
I thought you were talking 4 man rotation down the stretch J. I missed Mac’s post over Aerosmith.
With the off days in the playoff rounds, I would go 3 man rotation.
Game 4 down 2-1 CC or Phil Highes?
no, postseason……love the way the train keeps a rollin.
7 game set?
wow good question Lev…I’d go CC. And on that note I’m out. Catch you guys tomorrow. Good night friends.
5 or 7. You want to face elimination or going down 3-1 in a 7 games series?
Supe, thats my little girl and thank you, salud.
Depends on how CC’s game 1 is. If it is against the Halos and he gets bombed in game 1 I don’t know.
Night Supe
Happy Birthday to Ms. JRZ J
Happy wishes to you and yours J. Good times.
Let me get this straight- You brought CC Sabathia in for $160 million to win the big game and facing elimination you are going with Phil Hughes over him?
I don’t get if they scored 10 runs off of him in the first game. He gets the ball in game 4.
5 game set I go CC and hope AJ is ready to go in game 5.7 game set, I go Hughes and hope I get CC in 6 and AJ in 7
Thanks guys.
I don’t get eliminated with my best 2 pitchers on the bench waiting to pitch tomorrow.
my bad, CC in 5 and AJ in 6 and see if we get to 7 and then hope CC is ready.
Then you are pitching CC on 2 days rest. Why not throw him 3 times on 3 days in between instead of 3 times with 4 and 2 in between if you know you’ll need him game 7 if you are down 3-1?
I think CC can win the big playoff game. I do. I believe he was over used towards the end of the past two seasons and that effected his post season play. But, if he gets bombed in game 1 at Yankee Stadium and is coming back for game 4 down 2-1, yes I probably would want him back out there but I could see sending Phil out too and having CC get the win in game 5. Confidence has a ton to do with this game, especially pitching. There is a lot we have to see happen between now and then.
Note I am talking about ALDS. One step at a time.
I been drinking and you are tring to get me to add the #’s 1, 2 and 3.Maybe I was thinking it was the NBA sched….gimmie a schedule and results and maybe I can give you a more informed opinion.
You have to win Game 4 to get to Game 5. Girardi would lose his job the next day if Phil Hughes lost that game while CC was waiting to pitch Game 5.
ahahaahahahahhahaahhahah
Have a good night guys.
Later, I am done too.Night Mac.
Say it is Halos vs Yanks. Game 1 CC loses to Weaver, game 2 AJ picks up against Lackey, game 3 Pettite loses against Saunders. I might want to see Hughes face off against Santana and have CC ready for game 5 against CC at home.
It is a decision that is hard to make every post season for just about every team. I am out too. G’nite guys.
There’s a loooooooong way to go, fellows.
We don’t know who will be in the post-season yet. Even if we assume that a couple of teams will make it 9scuh as The Yankees), you don’t know how well each pitcher will be throwing in late September. Plus, if there is a close race to the playoffs, you may have to use your best two pitchers on the last two days of the season, meaning they would not be available to start a game until at least Game Two, maybe Game Three. If The Mets had made it last year, Santana would not have pitched Game One, and probably would not have pitched Game two, either.
