I don’t care what anybody says, losing in The World Series or The Super Bowl is like winning a Silver Medal in the Olympics…
And I don’t know anyone that would be looked upon as a “loser” by their hometown people if they came home with a Silver Medal in The Olympics… especially if that hometown was Brewster.
It comes from respecting the accomplishment and knowing how it feels to have your squad represented in the World Series…Should be a very compelling match-up…Obviously I’ll be pulling for the Phil’s…
JERRY COLEMAN was my mother’s favorite player ever. My mom was a life-long Yankee fan, until she converted to being an Oriole fan in October of 1978…….. to make ME happy.
real good matchup Bean.I think its gonna come down to who gets the better starting pitching but I guess that goes without saying. Its all about which team can shut down the other teams ridiculous offense for 4 games.
JRZ; Pitching, defense and timely hitting…the age old axium…still applies today and will forever…In the end quality starts by both teams starters will bode well given the performance to date of both teams middle relief…Mo is the X factor and to me the only clear edge I can give the Yank’s…and the best way to beat him is have a lead 4 times heading into the 8th and 9th…CC if he’s on his a game can nuetralize thier lefthanded line-up, Petitte has struggled this year facing lefties…Lee and Hamels give the Phil’s the same stregnths on paper vs your teams lefty line-up…but with 4 switch hitters not as much as your boys against thiers…
Hey GDYF; If the Phil’s go with Lee and Hamels in games 1 & 2…that turns around Texiera, Posada, Swisher and Melky…While the new stadium short porch in right can yield some cheapy’s…you still have to get good wood on balls hit to the power alleys especially in left center…my over-under for the series is 14…
Good analysis Bean.I think because of the time of year that this is being played and the cities it is being played in that we wont see the muscles flexed as much as we would in warmer weather.
I think that if you go position by position in the field and the lineup there are not very many clear cut advantages.I will say that the phillies do have an advantage in the OF both offensively and defensively. And the Yankees have an advantage in games w/ a DH.
Hey JRZ; Taking Matsui out of the lineup certainly doesn’t help and clearly he’s the better hitter than Stairs who’s likely to DH for them…Is Posada going to catch Burnett?
I would think so Bean.It may be Molina in NY, MAY, but if AJ makes a start in philly, I am certain you will see Posada behind the plate. No way in hell Girardi makes out a lineup card with Molina hitting 8th and Burnett 9th.
Getting ready for the TLR press conference, and am curious how long it takes to blow a gasket ( moving forward ) when someone brings up McGwire and the juice.
Hey JRZ; I think much depends on the situation when they come to bat…neither of them will get a pitch to hit if 1st base is open or if there’s RISP…I don’t see CC pitching around Howard though…AJ and Andy different story…Arod’s in a Barry Bond’s type of zone right now…So to me I make Posada beat me or Matsui…I’d say my over-under based on 7 games would be in the nieghborhood of 10 for each of them…with 3 or 4 of the intentional variety…
GM spirit; Thought I’d check in since the Herald site has turned into a pissing match (again)…rather talk ball…I too think it’s going to be a very good series and I think I’d stick with Hamels in game 2…though Pedro would be great theatre…I like turning around the lefties at YS…
Welcome Back Mark McGwire! What a joke! Sorry Lou. LaRussa was an enabler for all those years just like the rest of them so it is fitting that he is the one to bring back Mark. Maybe Pete Rose can be brought in to coach third base.
Hey spirit; Hamel’s hasn’t been the same guy all year…I’d still give him the ball in game 2 though…can’t give it to Happ too big of a game for a rookie to get the ball over Hamel’s…the non commital suggest Pedro might get the ball and then get ready for a circus in game 2…Who’s your Daddy!
I dont see any way that pedro gets a start in game 2.I agree w/ Bean that philly wants all them switch hitters swinging from the right side in The Bronx.
"During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at-bats a season. That means I played 7 years without ever hitting the ball." - Mickey Mantle
Got a few bangers in there. He’s not exactly a stranger. Then there’s the Pedro deal.Looking forward to that.
Hey Bean. How ya been….We have some talk about how awful this matchup is for our mets fan brothers at this site.
JRZ: The Yankees ALREADY have a ring. Champions of The American League. They are going for the bigger ring, now.
whats the o/u on batters faced by pedro before he hits a Yankee?
Thanks from where ever it comes from Bean
or does he just hit Jeter on the top of the left hand with his first pitch?

I’m thinking it’s relatively high J,but my money says Jeter is the first pop.
Did you guys hear what I said??? I said that
THE ORIOLES SWEPT THE PHILLIES IN THEIR HOME PARK this season.
It comes from respecting the accomplishment and knowing how it feels to have your squad represented in the World Series…Should be a very compelling match-up…Obviously I’ll be pulling for the Phil’s…
Obviously Bean,that’s understood.
JERRY COLEMAN will come out of retirement to hit a home run in Game Seven of The 2009 World Series.

JOE PAGE should be in the Hall-Of-Fame for being the first bona-fide “closer” ever.
What’s the O/U on hr’s both parks combined.Should be curtailed somewhat with the weather in the NE.November, what a joke.
For people that think that history started when they were born……
READ IT AND WEEP, wussies.

Welcome bean, nice to see ya.
Agreed on the formula for winning baseball. Should be a competitive series, and I put A.J. and Hamels front and center.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Pedro pitched game 2.
Bean, gimmie an o/u for Big Al/Howard combined walks in the series.
Levi, you around?
Getting ready for the TLR press conference, and am curious how long it takes to blow a gasket ( moving forward ) when someone brings up McGwire and the juice.
Hopefully, Duncan announces soon.
Real curious to see what Joe G does with the rotation. In his career, AJ has a 4-0 record with a 2.33 era on 3 days rest.

Welcome, Beantowne!!!
What’s up J?
That would be my choice also, bean, here’s what the Philly Inquirer is saying.

NEW THREAD!!!
Nothin Levi.I was wondering where you were getting the pitcher splits for days of rest but I found em at B-R.

Gotta run Gents…I’ll check back in the comings days…Looking forward to a good series…Go Phillies (I digress)…
Agreed, but swinging from the left side of the plate in Philly is no picnic for a pitcher.
Take care Bean
Congrats on your 40th trip to the world series you pinstriped cocksuckers.
Philles haven played in 40 world series GAMES!
Im rooting for the Phillies.
I see Mo as the big difference here.
CC vs. Lee – Cleveland Rocks!!! BJ vs. Cole in a very lavender game two!
