The crowded free agent flea market just got even more hectic. The following players have filed for free agency after being non-tendered contracts by their clubs at the deadline over the weekend:
C John Buck, 3B Garrett Atkins, C Raul Chavez, 1B Ryan Garko, C Shawn Riggans, C Mike Rivera, 3B Matthew Brown, 2B Kelly Johnson, 1B Josh Whitesell
RF Brian Anderson, LF Ryan Langerhans, RF Josh Anderson, LF Jeremy Reed, LF Cory Sullivan, RF Gabe Gross, CF Alfredo Amezaga, LF Jonny Gomes (LFer? Jeez, but he looked so comfortable in right field.)
DH Jack Cust
RHP Mark Worrell, RHP Jackson Quezada, RHP Adam Miller, RHP Anthony Reyes, RHP Jose Veras (remember him?), RHP Lance Broadway (remember him?), RHP Brian Bass, RHP Matt Capps, RHP Mike MacDougal, LHP Scott Olsen, RHP Clay Condrey, LHP Neal Cotts, RHP Mark DiFelice, LHP Phil Dumatrait, RHP Chien-Ming Wang, RHP Seth McClung, RHP Dustin Moseley, RHP Tim Redding, RHP Jose Arredondo
Given that most of these players will likely sign for much less than they were worth versus, say, 2008 valuations, this 2009 offseason should factor intriguingly into the agreement negotiations with the MLBPA in 2011. The big question is how the owners will roll with the punches through an economically exhausted market in 2010.
Meanwhile, at least one blogger has declared Johnny Damon the biggest loser from the 2009 Swap Meet Winter Meetings. Johnny and his mad dash to third base have all my sympathies, but business is business and life is Grand.

I didn’t hear that one Kev but probably not. Would the Jays have taken him off last year’s problems? It doesn’t look so good though if Jose limps around all year.
Talk to you later.
Jays did a bad job not demanding Drabek.
8 years for Matt Holliday 16 mil a pop??? You can have him.
OK Lev upon your rebuttal I will take the hit off Omar. i just wish the Mets were in on the FA pitcher deals, it is over paying for Lackey, I don’t know the Mets roster salary make up so I’m talking out my hat. I do know that they would look better if they had somebody with some credibility penciled in behind Johan. Maybe the fact that the Wilpons put up the No Mas sign turned these guys off, sort of who are you gonna fill the roster out with after me ? Suppose Reyes is damaged goods, and Wright lost his marbles hitting in Citi Field ? Why did Philly get rid of Lee? The only way they could get Doc? Damon back to boston hahaha it does make sense, they’d have to give him a few years though. These boston fans don’t think ellsbury is shipping out, they think he’ll be ready for a raise in 2011 and will cost San Diego money. I would think San Diego has to bring back some ready to go players though, for gonzo
Lee is looken for 5 years plus after next season and Doc was willing to accept 3 year extention.
Halladay has about 1000 more IP than Clifford.
Jeff Wilpon told the fans a few months ago the Mets would spend on FA’s. What a fraud.
Unk – Slide Omar the keys and tell him he is needed down in Florida. Thanks.
Oh Jealous Again hahaha no more hot sex with”Buddha, that was quick http://www.bostonherald.com/track/inside_track/view/20091215kiss_me_goodbye_kate_hudson_alex_rodriguez_playing_field_again/
A Christmas at Goldies joint does sound pretty annoying. Good move by aroid.
kev I thought Drabek was in the deal?
Lackey to the Pink Hats gives them a formidable starting staff on paper. I would not be surprised to see the Yankees swoop in @ the 11th hour ala Tex in 2008 & snare Bay for LF. MLB’s best lineup vs. MLB’s best starting staff 18x a season.
Unk – Maybe he is. Confusing deal.
Wonder what omar is doing right now? Anything?
If Sox can land Gonzalez for Ellsbury, Bucholz, thye would be pretty set.
Id trade Beltran for Bucholz, Ellsbury if Sox were interested ( even though I like Beltran, might as well get a little younger at the core)
Ellsbury & Bucholz for Beltran? Never happen. Why would the Pink Hats deal 2 players of that potential for a CF coming off an injury that’ll be 33 years old 3 weeks into the 2010 season?
Omar’s behavior so far this off-season is curious at best.
Making an offer to Bay without even sitting down with him or his people, and seemingly preferring to play it through the media, did not help the perception against him out there.
Given a choice between Holliday and Bay, Matt would be my choice (for most others too, I think). But not at those prices, if that’s really what St. Loo is offerin up.
To try and win a World Series next year? I consider Beltran one of best CF’s in the game.
I dont think they would do it either but threw it out there to try and forget the Mets have done nothing.
No doubt Beltran is a top shelf CF but age & coming off the injury I think would make the Beanheads reticent to deal Bucholz AND Ellsbury. Plus I assume CB has a no trade clause in his Met contract (as if that actually means anything).
This is not the best year for the Mets to deal any of their 3 core players, between injuries and Wright’s power dip.
