Francoeur Avoids Arbitration, Formidable Lineup in Place

Congrats on your $5M payday, Frankie.  Mets also retained rubber-armed lefty-four-outs-two-runs-only-guy (RA-LE-FO-TROGY) Pedro Feliciano, who is all but guaranteed to set a new club record this year.  Also retained was Sean Green, RI-FO-TROGY.

Seriously, the return of a strong Carlos Beltran – and he will return strong – will trigger the onslaught of one of the premier slugging outfields in the national league and what could become one of the most potent lineups in baseball, assuming the Mets keep four or five of the six primaries healthy over most of the year.  Considering last year’s steps back, that’s not too much to expect.  As much as the league, the fans, and all known life in the universe wants to pee on Mr. Met’s shallow grave, I would not discount this lineup for a moment:

1 Reyes 2 Castillo 3 Wright 4 Bay 5 Beltran 6 Francoeur 7 The Butcher 8 The Catcher 9 The Pitcher

Considering the Butcher hit third last year, the Mets enter 2010 on the ground floor at least.

Whaddayasay, Ben Sheets?

  5. Can Phillies Afford To Re-Sign Jayson Werth?
By Zach Links [January 22, 2010 at 3:48pm CST]
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro told reporters today that the club may not be able to retain Jayson Werth as they already have $130MM committed to just 14 players for 2011, writes Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer. His comments came after the press conference to announce the re-signing of Shane Victorino and were unsolicited by the media in attendance.

Amaro wondered aloud if the contracts given to Jason Bay and Matt Holliday would affect Werth’s asking price. Recently, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com wrote that he isn’t sure if the Phils could retain Werth for Bay-type money. Werth had his strongest offensive showing to date in 2009, hitting .268/.373./.506 with a career high 36 homers.

While his .879 OPS in ’09 doesn’t quite match Bay’s walk year OPS of .921, Werth’s solid defensive play (6.1 UZR/150) certainly trumps Bay’s notoriously weak fielding (-11.2 UZR/150).

  6. How about phone cards, k, ahahahahahahahahahahaaha

  7. Everytime I forget how funny Family Guy is, I watch it.

They were on Family Feud, and the question was ” something you’d find in a bathroom “.

Peter said ” a fetus in the toilet “.

A saw something about Werth, and that was before they signed Victorino.

  8. Wow, Bleacher report brings back some memories.

  9. If I were on “FAMILY GUY,” I would be BRIAN, the doggie.

  12. ya think they could get over the .500 hump, huh? Who they stealing the wins from, the Yankees, the sox, the rays or the jays?

  13. It could be the first year EVER that every single team in a division finsihes with a winning record: Red Sox, Yankees, Devil Rays, Blue Jays, and Orioles.

    REMEMBER THIS POST.

    coltsoriolesbullet January 22, 2010 at 7:05 pm
  14. Thats a bit of a stretch with the jays in the mix, no?

  15. JRZ:

I never look at things that way. I take one game at a time, and that’s the way that the teams that are playing the games should look at it also. If you start loking at the schedule, and ASSUMING that you can beat this team, you can’t beat that team, you’re wasting energy. 86 Wins Maximum, REGARDLESS of who they come against.

  16. Since 1998, The Blue Jays have hwon at least 80 games in 9 out of 12 seasons, and they have won at least 75 games in 11 out of 12 seasons. They are always there, one way or another.

Without Roy Halladay, they will play more as a team, and less relying on that one big ace.

    coltsoriolesbullet January 22, 2010 at 7:10 pm
  17. Good way to look at it and good stats on the Jays.

  18. Are the Jays getting back all those promising young starters that got hurt early last year?

  19. JRZ:

I don’t know. I’m just penciling in The Jays as having a good chance at a winning season based on their recent history, and on instinct………. even if I have to invent shit, like that nonsense that I wrote about how The Blue Jays will “play more as a team” without relying on Halladay as their big stopper. Pretty inventive spin, huh ??? I could probably run for President with lines like that.

  20. ya got my vote JOE. “A chicken in every pot and a stinky vagina in every bed.”

  21. Remember DENNIS on The NY Daily News ??? I admire guys like that. Dennis actually has a life. he OCCASIONALLY posts about The Yankees and his other favorite teams, but for the most part, Dennis has better things to do, unlike someone like myself, who spends a good portion of my life on Colts Freak.com, The Baltimore Sun Talk Forum, and Bronx Brass Tacks.

  24. Speaking of the DN, anyone hear from Billinsf ?

  25. I saw a post of his on TDN around July(??). I left him a message that it was good to see him and dropped a link to here but I never heard from him and I havent seen him at TDN again.

  26. Glad to hear, someone had told me he was quite ill, and had outlived his prognosis by months.

    Always liked him.

  27. I think he had lukemia. I remember him saying he didnt have long and my guess would be that was…July08??

  28. But I know I saw him there this past season.

  29. Yeah, I think I saw him post last spring, one of my favorite posters.

  30. yankee catcher link was dropped.

funny that Montero wasn’t even mentioned.

    I’ll say that again.

  33. Here’s more on that Guzman kid.

    Quote
The Giants have designated infielder Jesus Guzman for assignment, tweets Andrew Baggarly of The San Jose Mercury News. The move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Bengie Molina.

This kid is 25 and played most of his minor league Career at 3B but has played 1B, 2B, SS, and OF too

He is a switch hitter with a Career .299/.368/.470 Minor league stat line

    including Hitting

    .321 .379 .507
with 16 HRs and 71 RBIs in 115 games this season in AAA

  36. When The Giants won The 2007 Super Bowl in January of 2008, BILLIE in SanFran said that he didn’t think that he would get the chance to see The Giants try for a repeat in 2008. If Billie is still around, then it’s amazing that he has lived not just months, but YEARS beyond his original expectation.

  37. I saw the Tort clip on ESPN, but didn’t read the Brooks article. Evidently he called out one of the Rangers for not sticking up for his teammate.

Speaking of, how did the Rangers allow Gaborik to get pounded without someone helping him last night.

I hope Salsbury at least took the time to rub one out before taking the pictures.

  38. Fredo Gandil. That was when DENNIS was explaining to me that his posts to mark feinsand were erased because Feinsand didn’t like the way that DENNIS was critical of Joba Chamberlain being taken out of the bullpen. “Jo-Mo” was being broken up.

  39. J said he saw one of his posts in July.

Anybody got an e-mail address for him ?

    Not a big Feinsand fan.

Starting to get fired up, Shoe ?

  40. Rangers score 14 goals in 2 games then get shutout the next.Breschear is supposed to be their goon but it seems when you come to the Rangers you get pussified…example..Eric Lindros

  41. beat up at the bus stop….hee

  42. That was a good line, lib. Hey, you know how to get a hold of Billinsf ?

  43. No. Jrz saw him on the DN a few months ago.

  44. I kissed Brett Favre and I liked it

  45. They were railing on that song on the radio today, it’s a fight song for a pillow fight.

And thanks, thought he might of signed on here at some point.

  46. Ought to be a hell of a game, Babe, just wish the games were on Saturday.
