Apparently, A.J. Burnett’s psyche is repaired. We’ll see about that versus Toronto, who took him deep three times for six earned runs in six innings the last time out.
A reporter asked Jerry Manuel why he didn’t go with the closer Francisco Rodriguez with score 1-1 and Pedro Feliciano crowding the bases one-by-one in the ninth. Manuel casually patronized the reporter by quipping “that’s not baseball” and proceeded to explain the whole “win at home” scenario and how the Mets weren’t at home going for the save. That’s kind of funny, because, if memory serves, two nights ago Jerry was in Puerto Rico and brought KRod in for the eighth inning with his team down 6-4. True, it’s a speed bump after a smooth-cruising June. Just saying.
