The all star voting is done and Alex Rodriguez has decided that for millions that Texas may reneg’ on, Alex can be ARod in the second half. After a night like last night, when the Yankees scored six runs on five hits and ARod contributes just about all of the offense, he’s the most lovable a-hole in the game for a Yankee fan. The grand slam shocked John “Flah Flah” Flaherty in the booth so that he could barely stammer “grand slam” by the time ARod reached second. A favorable call on a 2-1 checked swing set up the bomb. CC Sabathia laid claim to his hometown mound, his mound, again going eight innings strong in Oakland. Derek Jeter is a mired man. David Robertson looks solid with a five-run lead. Curtis Granderson has many good things going with his game, except his batting average.
Johan Santana is bouncing back from some tough times, and last night might be a first glance at a brilliant second half. Johan nailed down his seventh career shutout versus a top offense. A little shaky towards the end, as Jason Bay muffed a routine fly ball (Angel Pagan sparkled in center all game long and was backing it up, luckily). Ike Davis erased the error with a diving grab of a Jonny Gomes humper. A pop fly later the game was in the books.

from lohud on Mo…..
His right knee: A problem since the Dodgers series, Rivera felt it while shagging fly balls, something he’s always done during batting practice. He said the knee is worse than the side. “It’s my pushing leg,” Rivera said. “Every time I push it’s there in the tendon, in the front.”
Ticker updated.
No more fly ball lollygagging with the fellas for Mo!

His RH splits are pretty impressive. The kid is holding his own against LH too…

“All of the guys in the clubhouse were kidding us about it, so finally Marco said, ‘We have got to check this out,’ Castro said with a laugh. “They put us back-to-back and Pedroia beat me by maybe a hair. He threw his hands in the air and yelled, ‘Yea!’ He was really excited that he’s a little bit taller.
He aint got no hair
I like that .328 OBP with two strikes against him.
I know earlier in the season he led all of baseball in 2 strike hits. Not sure if he still does. Like I said, I think .290/.370 or better keeps him in the spot. From that article it sounds like Joe will only go that way vs. RHP so we will see tonight.
This guy in Tampa is scary and they can make the deal w/out having to give up anybody that will kill them for the rest of this year…

Lefties just swarming the AL East.
I do NOT want Cliff Lee to be a Ray.
As an aside on that drop, interesting that the Mariners are going with “scouting” rather than numbers. If you read FanGraphs you would think the opposite was true.

Africa hot out there I tell ya.
Johan, Lee, Pelfrey would be pretty sick.
That ab by Johan lastnight was awesome.
God damn this has been a good first half so far. Loven it.
LETS GO METS GO!
LB – Two teeth coming in on the bottom. He’s 4.5 months. Pushen 15 lbs and 26 3/4 long. He seems advanced. HAHA.
- I go old school with a little whiskey on the gums and it seems to work. Then again this sick kid smiled after one of his shots on Saturday.
Just saw the ticker Lb. I can’t take credit for the Grandy story…i didn’t drop it
Nice. Sounds long but not too heavy. That’s good, you start noticing all the fat babies out there and now I ridicule other parents freely. Teeth have finally broken the gumline over here. He’s a long baby, too. He headbutts & swats when frustrated, flips on a whim, sits up when he wants, stands on command (as long as his hands are held, he pulls himself up). Only cries when Mariano blows a save.
Yankees have faced 31 LH starters in 83 games.
Mariano….HA!

The incestual relationship between SB Nation and FanGraphs continues.
BTW, in spite of my near-certain crushing defeat in the Classic, I will be creating and distributing a fantasy stat package in December-ish. First foray into document downloading commerce. I plan to sell nothing – just don’t see the hits coming – but simply to demonstrate technical feasibility for non-baseball purposes. It will be available free-of-charge to the Brass Ones, of course.
Will feature two-year and possibly three-year player averages, some pitching analyses (lefty/righty) by division, contract data, and the like, all in a PDF format.
Buster_ESPNsomebody who would provide depth at third in case A-Rod got hurt, but could play other positions. In other words, Wigginton a prototype.

Rays might do-or-die. I say it’s the Rays. BJ Upton is fine CFer.
GOMM signed by ARod: priceless
Who called out Damon’s 2500th?
The Orioles go for the kill tonight against The Tigers. I see victory # 26 for the 2010 season tonight for The Birds.

Lohud…
Cano out of lineup, might be in derby
Robinson Cano said no one has told him that he’s pulling out of the Home Run Derby. As far as he knows he’s still going. His back has been stiff, but not bad. He was told today he’s just getting a regular day off.
Derek Jeter SS
Nick Swisher RF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jorge Posada DH
Marcus Thames LF
Francisco Cervelli C
Brett Gardner CF
Ramiro Pena 2B
UPDATE, 3:59 p.m.: Joe Girardi just said as far as he knows Cano is out of the derby. Brian Cashman said the same thing.
What’s going on with the Sux and Papelbonehead? He is pitching the bottom of the 7th – did he lose the closer position to Bard?
Anyone in for the game?
Thanks Jrz, all my picks made that list of “underperformers”. Needed that.
Robbie: But I wanna go hit hone-rons waaaaa
I’m in for a couple of innings, in and out.
Posada blows.Thames is a dick
Hey Babe.
Why don’t mexican schools teach driver’s ed and sex ed on the same day?
They don’t wanna wear the Donkey out
Because the mexicans are fuckin’ filthy animals??
good looking out, canada. checking B-R game logs, and Papelbon hasn’t thrown since the second so maybe Tito wanted to get him some work. How about Matt Garza locking it down in the ninth?
Played some softball on Roosevelt Island today versus the Friars’ Club (of the Friars’ Club Roasts). Cool bunch of guys, a couple of them looked kind of familiar.
Musta been some good jokes going on, lib
And today was definitely a ROAST (sorry, too easy)
