Rest In Peace, Bob Sheppard

At age 99.

Plaque 17 in Monument Park reads:

His clear, concise and correct vocal style has announced the names of hundreds of players – both unfamiliar and legendary – with equal divine reverence, making him as synonymous with Yankee Stadium as its copper façade and Monument Park.

Comments

  1. After having life flash before my eyes this weekend, I realize now I need to hate the scumbag asshole Yankees and their obnoxious spoiled fans like there is no tomorrow in the second half.

I have so much hate to give.

    LETS GO METS GO!

  2. Jealous that I haven’t eulogized the Mets’ season yet? It’s still on life support, ya vulture.

  3. I was at the game when they unveiled the plaque. Still have a commemorative pin somewheres

  4. The only obnoxious fan on this thread is called , kev86

  5. Thoughts and prayers to the Sheppard family.

Here we are at the All Star Break, in the year of the pitcher, circa 2010.

    My surprises, so far.

    San Diego
    New York Mets
    Cincinnati Reds
    Chicago White Sox

    Disappointments :

    Florida Marlins
    Chicago Cubs ( such a shame )

Now for the longest 4 days of the season, and the insufferable joke that is the A.S. game ( haven’t watched one since 1994 ).

    Happy trails.

  6. Left out Texas under surprises.

    Sorry.

  7. How long before the boo hoo filled press conference?

  8. Any word on Beltres hammy?

  9. Morning all. nice breakdown of the schedule. the method of analysis looks kind of familiar.

  10. I don’t know every one keeps talking about trading Vazquez for a bat, I hate to say this not long ago I would have agreed. Since than Javy has settled down real good and has had some impressive outings, now Aj is the one i worry about, to inconsistent and fragile, even than I would not mess with the rotation this year. The bull pen and the bench are what need to be addressed

  11. check out Cansecos last 2 twitter posts

  12. 1yank, I kept saying that Javier would come around. He’s at 7-7 now and I’m gonna stand by my pre-season prediction of 13-15 wins over 30+ starts and 180+IPs, which you really can’t ask any more of out of your 5th starter.

I can watch Canseco’s feed like it was TV.

  13. He is a lunatic.

  14. mlbtr

Mariners president Chuck Armstrong and CEO Howard Lincoln weren’t aware of the full extent of pitcher Josh Lueke’s 2008 trouble with the law, reports Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times. Lueke went to Seattle as part of the Lee trade.

  15. Let the buyer beware.

  16. Canseco is fucking fun.

Lib did you read the drops on Lueke i was putting up the other day?

  17. yep. I was pretty much speechless.

  18. Cano 8 and Crawford 9 in the AL lineup.

“In the process of figuring his lineup, Girardi said he leaned heavily on stats, something he also does during the course of Yankees games with a thick analysis binder in the dugout by his side. “

  20. analysis binder hahahahahahahahaah

    Anal Binder

  21. ticker updated. Nice Beltre drop. Joe G figured out his plan and padlocked the binder last night, I imagine.

  22. “As long as the doctors say that my bone’s not going to break off,” said Pedroia, he’ll start weight-bearing activities after Friday’s CT. “That’s what the fear was the last three weeks, why I couldn’t walk. Where I broke my bone, if a bone breaks off they have to put a pin in it and then I’d miss the rest of the season. So my biggest thing is if I’m fine, if that bone’s strong enough to not break off, I’m going to play.”

some stuff on buchy and martinez as well..

  23. Which side of the plate was Swisher unable to swing from when he was having the biceps problem, the left side?

  24. whats up jrz ??

  25. “I’d play even if my bones were sticking out of the bottom of my shins, I’d run around and make plays on the bloody stumps. Dwarves got huge pain tolerance, bro…and you know what would happen if they cut off one of my arms? I’d swing the bat one-bloody handed…next thing you know: LASER SHOW.”

  26. huge pain tolerance-ahahahahahahahahahahah

    Yes J-left side

  27. And he is gonna hit LH tonight?

  28. I think you’d have to rip Swishers head off to NOT have him participate in the derby

  29. hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhaha

  30. I am just worried about him re-injuring it over swinging in a contest that doesn’t mean shit.

  31. What are they gonna do when one day a foul ball seriously drills someone’s kid on the field?

  32. I agree jrz. But it probably means a huge deal to a guy like swisher

  33. Its funny, it doesn’t mean shit to me, but I almost always watch it. Can’t quite put my finger on why. I just hate Berman so I usually mute it

  34. Are any of the guys that post here black? Would like to get a brothers perspective on what Jesse Jackson said today. I have to admit, I didnt think it was anything other than the Cleveland owner feeling like he got dumped and was acting like a bitch. While I dont put alot of stock in some things Jesse says, they were talking about it on PTI and Wlibon, who I happen to enjoy reading and listening to for the most part, said as soon as he heard the release from Cleveland he thought to himself, “He sounds like one of his cotton pickers ran away” or at least something VERY close to that.

  35. Swisher is born for shit like this, Slam. It is HUGE for him,.

  36. I’m not. But: Wilbon’s usually on the money. Jesse Jackson has said some really ugly things

  37. Swish will hit 6 and advance…..whats up jrz ?

  38. That train of thought never entered my mind, Slam but I am a white boy so WTF do I know?

  39. Whats up Joe.

  40. There might be more tattoos in MLB than the NBA now.

  41. Corey Hart=Moon Shots

  42. I hope that camera by the mound gets blasted

  43. I am not black but I kinda agree with the owner. In principal they are all cotton pickers – black, white, yellow whatever. Rich cotton pickers but cotton pickers nonetheless. If you really want to get technical once they sign on the dotted line they are “owned”. If I am that owner my bread and butter just walked out the door. You go from a packed house every night to struggling to pack half a house. Now he joins the other 22 owners who are losing their shirts and dont have a hope in hell of winning anything before the season even starts….. yeah I would be pissed too and I would careless about being politically correct about it

  44. I didn’t read or hear Wilbon or Jackson today. Trying to avoid the whole lebron thing.

  45. How about when NFL players have great seasons and then won’t play until their contract is “restructured” in their favor?
They never wanna restructure after they suck.

Swing Away!
