Rest In Peace, George Steinbrenner

An enormous loss to baseball, and a ripple across the fabric of Our Great City:

George Steinbrenner, a towering and intimidating figure who dominated the New York sports scene for 35 years, winning 11 American League pennants and seven world championships as owner of the Yankees, in and around two suspensions from baseball and multiple feuds and firings, died Tuesday morning in Tampa after suffering a massive heart attack. He was 80.

The Yankees had recently honored George’s birthday on July 4th at the Stadium.  He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, and generations of Yankee fans who can claim to have seen the Championship trophy in the hands of a Yankee.

  21. Thoughts and prayers to the Steinbrenner family.

Love him or hate him, as a baseball fan you can’t help but appreciate an owner whose primary concern was to put all available revenue into the roster of his team.

We likely will never see another one like him.

All the best to the BBT family, and their significant families.

  40. beltre and his bad hammy gummed up the works pretty good in the 9th.

  41. Sloppy baserunning in the ninth

  42. I think if beltre is 100% then Joe sends Al in to run for sloppy

  43. But he didnt send him in after beltre K’d so maybe not.

wait, did beltre hit before or after buck?

  44. Canada, you were all over it.

  45. “I believe there is 110% in every man, 10% more than he thinks, even me. And I wanna get to that 10%”—GMS

  46. Sloppy single, Beltre k, Buck single sloppy out at second, kinsler fly out

  47. I believe he was keeping Al to run for beltre if he got on since he would be the tying run and he had the hamstring thing on Sunday. But since he didnt send him in after the beltre K I am not so sure. He wouldnt have been able to have him run for Buck since he was the only catcher left.
