The Kansas native who played as a Yankee and managed as a Yankee passed in Florida at age 90. Rest In Peace!
Tip to the Babe, who is getting plenty of company these days.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.
I’m out- too much sun and Bronx traffic. Have a good one.
Cant speak intelligently about any mets player season since I spend most of my time flipping between the Yankees and whoever is playing the sox.

Morning fellas, nice win in the Bronx, must of been a nice day at the park Lev you got your money’s worth for sure. Nice to see Granderson hitting better, the grand slam HR I saw him hit in Baltimore hit Boogs Rib joint, when he connects he connects hopefully he can get it going, and keep it going, he was huge on Sunday finally breaking the O’Sullivan mystic. Mrs Hughes’ son is a paper tiger at 12-3, hopefully he still has his bull pen chops come playoff time if they get there. Maybe next spring he can work on another pitch, it might help as a starter. Joba being Joba, I’d get fitted for ear plugs, the bloom is off the rose with most Yankee fans he seemed to be ok after the walk and Posednik HR, maybe he wants to be a $tarter, he starts his innings real slow as a bridge guy, could be a problem moving forward. Logan and Moseley gave the Yanks a lift, that would be be a nice touch if they can step up, my guess is Mosely is the TBA starter for Thursday’s game. Nice job by Seattle, now we need Fat Mike’s Angels to finish the job before they get healthy with a bunch of rested guys down the stretch. Quite a show by Posednik, keep your fingers crossed Metsie’s you might be able to hoodwink KC into taking Ollie and Castillo, why I have no idea. Enjoy the day

Robinson Cano’s eighth-inning, two-run double was the Yankee second baseman’s 1,000th career hit in his 3,232nd at-bat. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, only two “homegrown” Yankees have collected 1,000 career hits in fewer at-bats – Derek Jeter (3,112) and Don Mattingly (3,042).

I was surprised to see the dwarf at .229
dwarf has to pull the ball to put any hurt on it. Kinda hard to pull a lefty.
dwarf= .293 for career vs. LHP
That Ankiel ball land yet?
Heading out to look at some manhattan women like a creepy old man. Nice day out tthere.
Least I’m honest.
don’t pull that stat mumbo jumbo on me Jrz with your fancy B-R numbers and mathematical truths.
tee hee
I’m not gonna say where I was Sunday, but I will say that I got a good view of the game and that Hughes hit exactly two spots the whole outing, a swing-and-miss in a full count and a cutter. Royals were taking their cuts at anything near the zone. Out at second unless Jeter was a little too sweep-y on his patented phantom tag. After that play, as Jeter was talking it over, a secondary roar came out of the suites as the replay must have shown “safe”. Damn it was HOT. Ankiel hit a BLAST. What Lev said all around. Hey Kev, Park Ave. is sweet.
were you in the pretty people seats?
He was out, Jeters glove actually got pinned between the runners hand and the base.
Kev, you breakin out the top of the shoe mirrors too ya pig?
If you were in the pretty people seats you better have gotten a picture with my lady.
I wasn’t in the pretty people seats but I was close enough.
After that blown call, the line drive homer off the foul pole was called late by the umpires and neither the batter nor the fielders knew what the play was. At that point I lost my shit and used the Voice…GET IN THE GAME, BLUE!!
Although you can’t entirely blame them…watching Hughes try to finesse the KC lineup through 105 degree heat nearly put me into a coma.
Is it possible that the Yankee brass think Mo is done at years end?
Yankees Rumors: Soria, Dunn, Lilly
By Tim Dierkes [July 26, 2010 at 11:23am CST]
11:23am: The Yankees dangled Jesus Montero in talks for Joakim Soria, reports ESPN’s Jayson Stark, but the Royals weren’t interested.
I cant think they would give up Montero for a guy that would be an 8th inning guy for 1+ years.

My bad. Didnt hit refresh buttonn J
great minds. Montero is cut out for a Seattle or a Chicago IMO. Him, an mid-20′s arm, and Miranda make a nice package.
With all due respect, that call safe wasnt that bad. Just becuase Jeets throws ball around to show up ump doesnt mean it was close. His hand (guy sliding) was at back corner of bag and nearly beat it. Posednik jacked one a couple pitches later anyway so kay dint cry like schoolgirl too bad.
Wasnt as bad as the phantom tag Jorgay got away with earlier in the week that the yanks booth didnt really address. That shit call was much worse.
With that said, Mets might have been 0 for leftcoast if not for a call going their way in San Fran.
Kev, I saw that he was out in real time. I didnt bitch about the missed call at 1st to end Saturdays game but the call yesterday was much different. Everything the ump needed to be looking at was all in one nice 12′X12″ square, not like trying to look at a foot hitting a base and a ball hitting a glove 5′ apart.
I will give ya the phantom call on Jorge, Mr. Umpire blew that one bad. Not sure he was in the best position to make the call. Was that against KC or LAA? If it was the 1st game against KC maybe the crew felt the need to get even somewhere else in the series.
Posednik did get a hold of one right after(kinda) but he may not have even seen the same pitch in that situtaion. Big difference between 2 out nobody on and 1 out man on 2nd.
I cant remember. i remember calling Kay a douchebag as he went to the break attempting to glamorize Jorgay blocking plate for first time in his life and applying a tag. I did enjoy the silence once he realized Jorgay missed the tag by a foot.
Good point on the different pitch. As LB would say, “get in the game blue”.
been a lot of weird calls this year.
With any call involving Posada the umpire gets the benefit of the doubt.
The umpiring is getting worse by the day. Like I told Joey No Boots the other day, I dont tend to get too worked up about the bang bang plays but the way the strike zone can change DURING a game drives me up a wall, not to mention the way it drastically changes from umpire to umpire.
Gotta run. Have some old hags in the businees a couple decades too long barken at me on a Monday.
Hoping the bugs make their annual appearance when A-Fraud jacks meaningless 600th in Cleveland.
Later.
by the way I read through this thread late last night and I was laughing my ass off the whole time.
benefit of the doubt…HA! I can completely understand that since 1/2 the time he doesnt know the count or how many outs there are.
Kev, not only may Hughes have not thrown the same pitch with nobody on, he would have been pitching out of the wind up as well.
There was nothin funny on here yesterday, was there?
Nothing at all. Both Hughes and Girardi not happy with the calling behind the plate yesterday and that zone was skating as it has been skating all year. Guillen was called out on a check swing by the 1b ump but it was a conciliatory gesture after the guy behind the plate shook his head on two pitches down teh middle earlier in the AB. The check was definitely a check IMO, looking from reasonably down low to the field and even with the SS on the 3B side, but Guillen didn’t argue. Too much of the umpires injecting themselves into the outcome of the game and impeding the progress of play.
I think it looked like Guillen went on the replay.
Didnt break his wrist but the bat went thru the zone plenty
I left during the delay by the way. I didn’t even think that ARod would be coming back to the game after fouling the ball off, given the sudden change in the air to cool and wet (swelling?) and the layoff. Hindsight=20/20 but he should have been showered and clean by 5:00. Lev got his money’s worth, evidently, but he brought the kid and mine was at home. Baseball is nothing but a chew toy for mine, for now. At one point I want to see the monuments and the museum and I might just hit a cheap game in September to view both.
Was just scrolling back thru the thread, there is some pretty good stuff in there.
I’m all about wrist breaking, didn’t seem like he went from my vantage point.
In any case, there is only one way to see the game.
btw I wouldn’t have left early but the tix were a gift and I had no idea how long I would have been there. So no judgin’!! Last year I hit about five games and stayed 27 outs for each including a 10-inning game.
Bro, I roll out of them ST games in the 6th inning usually and to be honest at this point I am happy on the couch drinking 80 cent cans of beer. Not to mention after what I saw yesterday on “Outside the Lines” I wouldnt eat anything but a peanut in the ballpark ever again. Did you see the link I dropped yesterday morning?
I might be down for a game in Sept though, have to see that place sooner or later and was looking at airfare over the weekend and there are some deals coming up.
SOOOO, Big BBT CEO sitting in the luxury boxes huh? Way to go Ry Ry!
Keep reading articles that have the Angels “winning” the Haren sweepstakes. IMO, I think they got raped. I don’t see Saunders making an impact on anything they do avet there and I keep hearing the prospects they got are shit too.
Can’t wait to start unloading some dead weight in Queens. I hope Omar still has minutes on his phone!
^^^Zona getting raped^^^ I know, sounded confusing!
