Yanks lose. Mets lose.
Standings.
The MLB.com wrap has a pretty fair accounting of what went down, but if you need more, hit YES Network. I think Joe Girardi needs to take these guys to Six Flags or something.
Andy Pettitte will skip a start due to some soreness in his arm-area:
“I really didn’t feel like I was hurting that much,” Pettitte said. “I’ve thrown every day since the start, and it doesn’t hurt right now. I just feel like it would be best to try and skip the start and nip it in the bud right now before it gets any worse…”I definitely don’t want to be standing on the mound in the postseason or a game at… (more…)
Brawl! ::: Mets Continue to Play Out The Charade
Yanks Steal One from LA
Yanks win.
Standings.
It was an up-and-down night, when the other team’s physical errors overcame the Yanks’ mental ones. I’ll take the W, and someone train Melky to stop and think – you don’t just give away a runner in scoring position like that. If Napoli doesn’t throw a cut fastball down to third and if Figgins doesn’t flinch with Gardner bearing down on him, Melky’s mistake is easily the balance of the game.
I would have tossed them, too.
Yanks Finally Fired Up in Finale ::: Hey, Isn't That Pedro Martinez Beating the Mets?
Yanks win. Mets lose.
Standings.
Matsui spoke to the clubhouse yesterday morning, and went something like, “OK, let’s stop all this Jeter stuff and win a ball game, fellas.” That it happened in a CC start is not surprising. This corksucker can’t seem to call a game without having problems with the Yanks.
Pedro Martinez went 8 innings and whiffed 7 Mets before the his night ended. He looked fit and touched 90 on the radar gun.
Joba Might Have Legs for October ::: Another Night to Forget for the Mets
Mets lose.
Standings.
Joba Chamberlain got cornered by a DN reporter at a golf shop in the city. As you would expect, the kid wants a start in the playoffs:
The Joba Rules these days confuse even Joba Chamberlain, who “totally wasn’t thinking” and thought he would get to pitch a fourth inning on Wednesday night against the Rays.
But let there be no confusion about where Chamberlain believes he fits, and where he wants to be, come October: He wants a start.
“Yeah, of course I do, definitely,” Chamberlain told the Daily News Thursday, after strapping on an electronic suit that fit him for a new TaylorMade driver at the New York Golf Center. “But at the end of the day, it’s really… (more…)
Swisher Broadcasts In Stereo ::: Beltran Returns, Mets On "Mute"
Yanks win. Mets lose.
Standings.
Nick Swisher had home runs from the left and right and A.J. pied his head. Anyway, Yanks pass last year’s mark for wins. Jeter’s mom and dad should have told him he’s worthless and insignificant, rather than “enjoy yourself”.
David Robertson suddenly is stiff and the Yanks have shut him down. Since Robertson was eligible to be added to the playoff roster, a free spot means that Gardner coming back will NOT make the Yankees choose between Gaudin or Mitre, or anyone else for that matter. A week ago it was Mitre, but after last night, who knows who it would be. Mitre had to skip his turn for that elbow bruise which seems to be getting… (more…)
Jeter Still Needs Four Hits Heading into Soup Bowl Night
Yanks win, twice.
Let’s just work on one record at a time.
Tampa Bay is officially kaput.
Pettitte As Perfect As Needed ::: Cubs Put on Power Show at Citi
Yanks win, Mets lose.
Standings.
“Sometimes the old guy needs a break.” – Phil Hughes to Kim Jones after yesterday’s game. Mo is coming back.
Make sure you hit Joe G’s post game as well, if only for the look on his face when the topic of the pop up to short right comes up. Big Al is due for a 5-HR week.
Another night, another meatball left up in the zone with two strikes.
Rich Harden fanned 10 Mets as the Cubs take the second game of the series. Figueroa threw better than the numbers indicate.
ARod Nearly Ejected for Groping Cop
Yanks win.
Standings.
Native NYer earns the backslaps, the Yanks have tied the record for players with 20 HRs. Jeter has 17.
(ARod wasn’t REALLY almost ejected).
“Spring training with a pennant chase“? I don’t buy it. Tonight, it’s Joba vs. Halladay.
David Wright is back on the wild side.
Pedro Martinez beat Tim Lincecum and the Giants, in case you haven’t heard.
Yanks Blow by O's, Push Back Boston ::: Giambi Beats Mets
Yanks win. Mets lose.
Standings.
I’m glad that Tex sitting out has nothing to do with his ankle-threatening stumble by the tarp on a foul pop and later physical failure to get air on a high throw to first the other night, like I’m glad Posada sitting out has nothing to do with recent boneheadedness and like I’m glad Phil Hughes was last night’s closer. Time for shiatsu. ARod has broken his swing back down and looks like he’s reformulating himself.
I think the pitch that Boston tips pitches has been tipped.
Well, you saw this coming, didn’t you?
Count On Jorge ::: Mets Hit Rocky Mountain Low
Yanks win. Mets lose.
Standings.
Jorge Posada can forget what day it is, as long as he anchors the middle of the lineup like he did last night. Team looks sharp.
The Great Gazoo appeared last night at the Met game wearing David Wright’s jersey, and pleased the crowd with a solid single. Whatever it takes to protect that noggin is fine by me.
Game Show Andy Rings Up Strong Start, More Cash
Yanks win.
Standings.
Andy Pettitte is making Brian Cashman look like a genius for constructing a health-driven contract that has Andy taking bags of money home after every 10 days. From Cot’s:
1 year/$5.5M (2009)
re-signed by NY Yankees as a free agent 1/26/09
$4.5M in performance bonuses: $0.5M each for 150, 160, 170 IP; $0.75M each for 180, 190, 200, 210 IP
$2M in roster bonuses: $0.1M for 120 days on active 25-man roster; $0.2M for 130 days; $0.25M each for 140, 150 days; $0.4M each for 160, 170, 180 days
Game Show Andy is at 167 1/3 innings, meaning he’s racked $1M so far on the first perf. clause and roughly $800k so far on the second perf. clause. Three innings into… (more…)
Yanks Sweep OzzieSox ::: Figueroa Salvages Split for Mets
Yanks win. Mets win.
Standings.
Confirmed in this Joba interview that the Yanks have probably been disinforming the public regarding Joba’s plans, and in my opinion, mixing that in with some good ol’ “oh sh!t!” plan-scrapping.
Next up: the Orioles.
OK it’s September, time for teams to expand their rosters and let lower-level players have at it in the bigs. Except for the Mets, of course, who have been doing that since July.
The spate of injuries that has undermined the Mets this season now stands as an obstacle in a different way. The Mets essentially have raided the roster of their Triple-A Buffalo affiliate to fill their voids on the big league roster. As a result, they… (more…)
